What Have You Done To Your 205 Today?

Recommended Posts

Tamanga

After finishing welding up my camper I've started to clear the 205's boot of it's stash of parts... I've fitted a new used sunroof handle and choke blank (thanks Rock Lobster) new sunroof washers, denji driving lights, and stainless driving lamp brackets (cheers Tom Fenton).

It's starting to look a bit less neglected now! :)

Painted my new black tailgate panel grey using that special Peugeot paint. It came out really well, that paint it so easy to use.

Would you happen to have a part number for the paint you speak of? Is it in a spray can?

Up early, wife and baby still asleep.

Empty roads, thrash to Goodwood.

Look at cars.

Come home, slower, still before midday!

Yey, lovely little 205 in its element!

Still emptying the boot of parts so I've replaced the door locks and boot lock for a matched set and replaced passenger window mech as it dropped when driving along.

Then replaced roof aerial and ran a new aerial lead down the A-post and fitted an OE Clarion tape deck. Replaced the nasty chrome gearknob with an OE one with correct gear gate, new tailgate inner trim panel, new rear badges x3 and fitted stainless rear bumper support brackets. Also sprayed a grey parcel shelf black, came out nice!

I've been lucky so far - I found 40,000 mile GL in the local scrapyard and got most of the parts required (including Clarion and gearknob) for £30.

Starting to look smarter, now I need to get on with jobs for MOT (cars been off the road for about 3 years before I've bought it).

Engine dynoed my 2.3 16 v XU. 278hp @ 7500rpm and 208 ftlb at 5500. Ran into problems with the head gasket passing so stopped until problems rectified. Happy days.

Very nice! What's the spec, there's not much info in your build thread.

Had a whole weekend scrabbling round under the car! Dropped the rear beam, which has been replaced from the original at some point - I assumed it was a 1.6 beam, but turns out it was a boggo one! Anyway, removed the beam and then spent a very unpleasant day grinding off old underseal, removing paint, rust etc. The rust was fairly superficial at least. Then applied rust stabilzer, then Epoxy mastic, then Tetrasyl underbody chip guard, and then a light coat of body colour.

I bought a beam on here which had been refurbished with 306 arms and shocks and slightly lowered. Before fitting this I cleaned it up and painted it (black arms, yellow tube, red torsion bars). Got it all back together last night, with new brake pipes, brake hoses, handbrake cables....just back plates to fit now. Perhaps not as pristine as Tom Fenton's recent photos on this thread, but a definite improvement!

I also fitted my new beam today. Was annoying to find a couple of marks on the paint from jacking it into position. It's funny how you spend ages painting everything up, but for those 15 minutes of fitting/occasional wrestling you no longer care about marks and just want to get the thing located and the nuts started

I'll be touching the marks up in the morning though ;) I did laugh when the wife piped up saying why did I bother painting it all when you can't see it. Her exact words then were 'maybe if you ever roll it over people will be able to say how pretty it looks'. Let's just hope it remains hidden from view.

Fitted a new drive shaft to drivers side and replaced the seal on the passenger side. Had to split the drivers one at the joint to be able bang it into the diff as it wouldnt go fully in.

Dropping the beam and tank then sorting the rust in the floorpan is the best thing you can do for your 205/309 , if they have not been done already they will need doing soon before the rot takes hold .You've got peace of mind for 5 to 10 years now in that area .Its cheap to do but a bit time consuming to do properly , although the brake lines will usually need replacing .

Ordered even more nuts, bolts and washers for my beam from Peugeot today . Put a 2nd coat of blue engine block/caliper paint on my front brake carriers hopefully they will suit the Miami well .

Took the wifes 306 cabrio for its MOT , 10 mins fiddling under the seats got the flashing airbag light to go out before I dropped it off .

Not much to say mate. 48mm throttle bodies. Ported head. 13 to 1 compression. 92 X 88. Forged rods and pistons . Slightly larger valves and custom spec cams. Around 12.5 mm lift. Custom made exhaust manifold. Run on q 16 fuel but ran fine on optimax with octain booster. I'm on with the remedy work now and then it's back on the dyno for maybe 285 290 hp. Fingers crossed. There's a video on my face book. Phillip dwan. Add me if you want to see. Edited because spell checker ruined what I wrote.

Discovered that weeks ago!

It'd of been a s*it post without the pictures though!

Pip, what's the rev limit going to be in the end and who's mapping/dyno is it?

Rev limit is a good question. We got to 7500 before having to stop. I would of happily gone to 7750 and then depending on what the power was doing maybe 8000. As you know doing drag racing I won't be sat at high rpm for long periods of time like a track car. Piston speed is a concern on 92mm stroke but ill see what happens. I can't remember what blackmi16 reved his to and he had a longer stroke. It's bob Jones dyno and he is mapping also.

Found the cause of my horrible creaking noise, new drop links ordered!

Typical, the only thing I didn't change when fitting the new suspension!

The aerial base has been sealed. Back to the drawing board.

Need to check mine when I get home, I swapped the aerial at the weekend, didn't use sealant and it has been raining all day. :(
