What Have You Done To Your 205 Today?

Recommended Posts

Couldn't make the Ace café this month , finished painting the kitchen at 9 pm .!

Toyos arrived , looking forward to getting them fitted on Saturday .

PS , Demon Tweeks , JJC and Ears are all cheaper for these tyres on Ebay , should have done my homework .

I was going to mention this, but there didnt seem much point when you'd already bought! Oh well!

Smashed out the bearings from a pair of very rusty hubs/hub carriers and left them to de-rust in my battery charger de-rusting tub. Coming on very nicely.

Are the bearings the same in 1.6 and 1.9 hub carriers?

Didn't think they were but on ebay there's many listings that say they are for 1.1,1.4,1.6,1.9,TD etc how can that be, just ebay bollox you reckon?

have a read of the Article on 205 front hubs.

I've read it a few times but some things are unclear to the non experts on this subject. And peugeots/servicebox's way of arranging parts to fit certain groups of model is equally baffling sometimes.

Only the 1.9 gti uses the large wheel bearing.

Base model 1.6 gti and diesel use the smaller bearing.

I know the center of the bearings are different as are the hubs that go through them but what about the outer diameter of the bearings are they different too?

Servicebox as you probably know lists two different hub carriers but they look the same to me. It doesn't explain these two questions on that guide.

Yes the 1.9 bearings have a larger o.d.

It does on the one I'm looking at.

Bugger. It does n all in the pictures never noticed the writing where it says O.D 72/82 was always looking at the servicebox list where it gives diam 82 for 1.9/abs and nothing for anything else.

Slicks bought, gearbox oil topped up, couple of laps round the block and no leaks from the new oil cooler :-)

Look into getting the tyres fitted tomorrow and get the grills fitted in the front valance. ..

Am I right in thinking 1.9 wheel bearings are the same as a 405/406/306 then?

nearly, low spec TU 306 and 405 have 72mm bearings, but all 406's use the 82mm bearing.

307 uses the same drive flange, the bearing is the same 82mm dimension but if used in a 307 does have a specific bearing with a magnetic ring in it for the ABS system.

Worked out that I've driven 752 miles in the 205, in the last 11 months.

Also my new OE gear knob arrived from France its white pattern on top. Swapped it for the red and now I have a OE one for much less that others are paying for them!

Buying wheel bearings on Ebay and elsewhere is a bit of a lottery to be honest , they are probably the most common thing to be incorrectly listed . I have ordered a wheel bearing before and they send a different item/size to that listed .As a rule I never buy anything with a generic picture and without all the dimensions .

205 GTI 1.9 and 309 GTI front wheel bearing is 82mm O/D , 42mm I/D , and 36mm wide .fitted 3 of these a month or two ago .

205 GTI 1.6 and I believe all base models bearing is 72mm O/D , 35mm I/D and I think 34mm wide but I have not fitted one of these for many years .

Had my new Toyos fitted today at my local tyre shop , they did not feel anything 'special' on the drive home but it was damp and they had not had a chance to bed in , all became clear when I checked the pressures with my own gauge 35 , 41 , 42 and 45 PSI !?!

I've got a white one too in my sorrento. I bought it from pug ages ago. In hindsight and the amazing prices these go for on ebay I wish I'd bought a few more. Green ones were available then too...
