This week started off with me dropping the car off tuesday morning at the garage who fitted the shafts to have a boot changed as one had split. They fitted it that day under warrenty.

Now onto the engine..... my compression tester turnt up this morning so i though id give it ago, it only cost me £11 off the 'bay but i thought it would do the job..?

SAM_0036.jpg

On removal of the first plug i was left with this. They all looked the same and are gapped at 0.85mm

SAM_0034.jpg

After a quick comparision in the haynes manual, it would imply my car is burning oil...... lol

I followed the instructions in the manual for testing but i dont think ive done it right somehow, my process was

Remove all leads from plugs

Remove all plugs

Remove main power supply to coil pack

Remove power supply to injectors

Start on cylinder one and work over to four

Turn the car over until the gauge stops (turning over for no longer than 15 seconds)

The results where poor to say the least, the first three cylinders made 75 psi (5bar) and the forth cylinder made 73psi (4.9 bar)

It said in the haynes manual anything under 10bar is poor, but my results cant be right as with half pressure the car wouldnt run at all surely..?

Opinions anyone..?

To add to this ive just had a bash at trying to solve my none working front water jets, i bought a new gti stalk a couple of weeks back as that can be prone to causing problems and also give me a much needed "intimitant speed" base models dont have for some stupid reason...

Old vs new

SAM_0037.jpg

Sadly it didnt help... ah well at least i now have intimitant wipers so thatll stop bugging the s*it out of me :fcuk:

Next up was to check the other end which for some reason has had a zip tie wrapped around it..?

SAM_0038.jpg

I pulled the plug off and found the spades are a little crusty so gave them a clean

crusted,

SAM_0039.jpg

that also didnt make a difference so im a bit stuck again............

  • Just tested the car again, this time using full throttle while cranking the engine,
    cylinder 1 dry 5bar wet 6bar
    cylinder 2 dry 5bar wet 6bar
    cylinder 3 dry 5bar wet 6bar
    cylinder 4 dry 4.5bar wet 6bar

Im not sure what to make of that really, all i can think is if that is accurate then why does the car run so well...? it never feels underpowered, missfires or idles irracically.
Peugeot state the cylinders shouldnt be under 10bar dry.
    Opinions..?

Went to pugfest today, not as far from home as FCS but still far enough to be a tedious drive lol....

the 205 is not built for munching motorway miles.

some on the stand,

I also took the car up the hill, well be rude not too... drove well..!

Overall i enjoyed the day, never been before and didnt know what to expect. Wouldnt say its better than FCS but its a lot more laid back and relaxing..

More of a show where you park up with freinds have a barbie then enjoy looking at some nice motors blap up the hill.

I went to the show using the a338 but didnt fancy it on the way back with forever speeding up and slowing down so took the longer route (mileage wise) and come back the a34.

Set off to Windsor this morning to pick this up,

64ed546b.jpg

Its a 89/90 alloy 1360cc XS engine producing 85hp, the engine ive been told has covered less than 100k miles but even if its done more it dosent concern me as its coming too bits..

It came as a full engine with box, exhaust's, shafts all ancillaries and two carbs. I just need to check the codes to see what gearbox it has etc..

Best buy my self a engine crane and stand then :D

I plan to only use the bottom end off it. My planned spec as follows,

S1 106 Rallye head/metal inlet

Green open cotton filter

1360 alloy xs bottom end

S1 106 Rallye gearbox

421 manifold

Race tube b pipe

Omp inox back box.

Some of the guys on saxp reckon though the box has a different bell housing to my 106 ma box and won't fit :S

Yeah it won't fit mate I had that problem I tried fitting a ax gt box to my vtr bottom end and it wouldn't fit only 2 bolts line up I think

But the Xs box should be pretty close geared I'd think

Apparently it might be worth looking if you can swop the bell housings on the box..?

I'm sure jackman did something with a ma box casing and ax gt gears so you could maybe put the 106 rallye gears in the Xs casing?

Bought my self an engine crane and stand today as lets be honest building and fitting engines is nearly impossible without them lol..

up up and away,

SAM_0110.jpg

having these allowed me to crack on well i say crack on i didnt start until two as i was late getting up as i didnt get in until late this morning :panic:

box came off with ease, i cant find a code engraved on it like my rallye box but found this if anyone can identify it off this..?

SAM_0111.jpg

and the shape of the bellhousing,

SAM_0112.jpg

end of play it didnt really come on far, that wasnt out of choice but more the fact my windy gun stopped working so i couldnt get the last three flywheel botls out :wall:

stop slacking and get on wiv it :P you don't need an impact gun.

afaik that engine should be the same bellhousing as a 106 as its an 89, pre 88 is when TU bellhousings were different.

lol... i havent used it yet but i dont know anyother way to get the fly wheel bolts out with the windy gun and didnt understand your comment tbh

I hope so, thats why ive taken that photo to see if somone more clued up could tell me.

If i cant fit my box id like to fit a BE box which ive started a thread about.

What welshpug meant is use a big flatbladed screwdriver to jam into the flywheel teeth, in order to stop the flywheel turning, and then use use a ratchet/breaker bar on the tight nuts :)

Easy to swap bellhousings if you need to, Got a 1.3 Rallye box at work which I think I may have claimed
