[Body_Work] Rust Rust And More Rust!

Recommended Posts

Gaz, I'm not sure if the part is still available, I guess I better look! You are right it has taken a long long time... hopefully the home stretch now. The guy has just turn out a Mk1 Cortina which looked stunning so it might be worth the wait.

Leslie,

The Workshop is saying 2 weeks to complete the prep, and 2 weeks to paint (ish) so it might(might!) be ready for rebuild come June.

Well work still crawls along...

Wings have all been blasted, dents removed and first light coat put on, Main shell has had the last of the rust removed and various dents and marks beaten out. FInal sanding and prep is under way ...

and yes I know there is still a bit of a bump on the drivers wing!

Well the last panel has now  been relieved of paint, dents etc marked up and is receiving attention. Slowly creeping towards actual red paint getting used...

You'll have paid for the restoration with all the road tax and insurance you've saved if they take any longer!

Cant wait for this to get finished

More progress, almost ready for some actual red paint..

The underside  and arches are being painted back to red, currently black building up the layers before adding an epoxy sealer coat then a red top layer

You can see the passenger rear sill and arch has been nicely repaired, no sign its been done ( at least to my eyes)-  and the rear bumper brackets fitted and welded into place.

Lots going on - fully respray inside as well so should look pretty tidy when its done.

The boot has been  sorted, stripped and some welding. Front transmission arch required some attention where the old sealant had baked and failed.

Donor doors have been fully stripped, dinks removed, prepped and now in undercoat. Wings are original. The horrendous crease I put in both when I took them off has been removed (hate to think what it has cost!)

Martin that's the initial primer- its going back to cherry red. The guy that's doing it has spent hours and hours and bloody hours making sure theres no dents, dinks, marks or scuffs and all the pin lines on the doors, wings etc are perfect. Its painful how long its taking but hopefully the end result will be worth it.

Great attention to detail there mate, love the thread. Its going to look amazing when its finished.

It gets really hard to keep the momentum during a resto, but you are about to move onto the really interesting part.....the rebuild !

Out of interest, assume the glass is out of the rear hatch? Did you ruin the rear glass seal when it came out?

The seal and glass practically fell out of its own accord so I think it's new seal time!

I thought that the seal was no longer available, is this not the case?
