picked up my rollcage on wednesday :) saftey devices one, second hand, looks all good. Also whilst I was there the chap (who was breaking his rally car) had a refurbished steering UJ (square fitment...) with no play in it, so picked that up for £15.... just sayin ;) lol.... ^_^

Now have to decide whether do go to the unit tonight and start on the cage... or to to and drink cheap jagerbombs in leamington all night wake up with a head full of shame and regret....

Shame and regret FTW. :D I'm at GodsKitchen on Saturday night so no car work for me either!

Nice work on the steering UJ too. Bare savings. ^_^

Herro! ok, cage is in, took ages (2 days) because the foot mounts were a bit of a mess after the previous owner... so just cut them off and re did them. Need to add little bit of weld on a coupla feet still, but I'll do that when I get back to the garage after christmas; take the cage out and get it re-powder coated.

so got the rear plates fabbed up first, lips bent in certain places to contact floor all the way round, welded because I cut about 1.5mm deep to allow for a much better bend and keep the top as flat as possible.

399136_10150474064329330_509954329_8561871_1958425082_n.jpg

so put both of them down and seam welded them, cut new plates for the cage too, surface area way within MSA specs so thatll do... seam welded the tube later. Weld through primer was a nightmare, didnt have time for it to cure so was useless really, hassle. bare hassle.

404656_10150477663589330_509954329_8572084_1434145424_n.jpg

did the same with the centre mounts, captives welded to the back of the 3mm plate, then holes cut to accept them in the body, all weld through primered on mating surfaces to prevent rust for all of 3 microseconds im sure...

400428_10150477664704330_509954329_8572093_231743006_n.jpg

ok... had to rush home and stuff, didnt have time to get the cage out so I just chucked primer on everything before leaving, so everything is grey like this now. Front box sections were done with sq area and lip running up the inner sill as per MSA specs, 2 captives and 2 normal nuts. Jobs a gooden.

left it tucked up for christmas after that :)

not much visible progress sadly. The wilwoods I bought got lost in the post, so awaiting a refund and a trip to one of my mini suppliers... Bit closer to sorting out the custom pistons and conrods for the engine build. Should have the subframe next week (cheques waiting cam). I have got some reservoirs tho, my girling ones were too big to fit in the scuttle so ordered these little puppies.

Picked up the half way house engine, need to get this done so I dont miss to many sprints, first is 18th of march and its not looking great! lol. Going to put a 1.9 on throttle bodies in it with a 1.6 box for the time being. Picked up a cheap 1.9, shall give it a clean soon and bosh it in.

Ok, picked this up today... last night..? urgh. Subframe from Cam,

403634_10150537084404330_509954329_8786314_1396919347_n.jpg

Cleaned it all up

403320_10150537085849330_509954329_8786315_993693240_n.jpg

Got some black on it (and the brackets).

405328_10150537092439330_509954329_8786324_368480037_n.jpg

Its pretty stiff, and all solid mounted so should do the trick, GTI6 rears will hopefully match the fronts nicely too. Fills the hole the old seized subframe was in anyway! Will rebuild it at the end of this season, blast and paint things properly then but for the time being this car really needs to get together!!! Looks OK though, will prime and paint the tube tomorrow, still deciding whether or not to go out, lol.

Cheers,

Al
