whats the pros of an airbox to filter instead of just a large filter.

noise reduction mainly.

Yeah, that's what most people say though it's still noisy as hell! I acutlaly run with a direct cold air feed to the airbox when on track, as shown in this picture:

I'm going to look at the space there is above the radiator agian and see if I CAN get the oil cooler there...

Yeah, that's what most people say

Is there any other reason then ? less turbulance ??

Yes, I think that is part of it as the trumpets are seeing steady calm air and don't get 'buffeted'. I suspect it may also alter the power/torque characteristics a little, though I doubt any of the peak figures.

It was something I wanted to do a back-to-back on the dyno with but I've now sold the Jenvey airfilter so that won't happen now...

A little update... managed to sort out a -12 JIC fitment oil cooler, everywhere seemed to be out of stock!

oilcooler_new.jpg

Also got my plate CNC'd for fitting the oil filter to the side of the head, well pleased with how it's worked out:

More updates tomorrow

that's a big oil cooler - 18 row ?

Good-o, the bracket fits (pics later) :(

Cooler is a 19 row, simply because there was nothing smaller in stock anywhere (resonably priced) and that included Think/Mocal! I cam either cover some of it up or change it for a smaller one if it over-cools but we shall see how it goes

Some pics... first we have the modified head water housing, and second is a modified rear block water housing. This now means no heater matrix plumbing and no pipe running around the back of the head.

waterhousing1.jpg

waterhousing2.jpg

And I quickly slung the fabricated bracket onto the head to see how it all fitted, and it's perfect

Next is to fabricate some oil cooler mounts, then finish up the pipe run and get those pipes!

If you add an vertical bar from thin ally strip (6mm wide x 3mm thick ish) that runs vertically down the side of the oil filter (joined onto you new filter housing bracket) then you can place a large jubilee clip round the strip & filter to make sure the filer can't vibrate loose (if that makes any sense.....)

Doesn't look quite as bling but can save the engine!

Few more updates... radiator and oil cooler now fitted, got to add some cowling between the oil cooler and rad though to prevent 'dead air'

piperun7.jpg

Also started putting the interior back in

piperun8.jpg

Some major progress will be made this week and at the weekend I'm trailering the car down to Merlin Motorsport to have all the pipework made up for the dry sump, brake lines and fuel lines

Updates and more pics here: http://www.mdracing.co.uk/rebuild.asp
