Wanted vented disc in the rear and found a Audi A8 with vented disc and wide brakecalipers with integraded rear handbrake.

Dont know if I will go for hydraulic  ”inline” with footrearbrake ore a seperate caliper. The best is if the mechanical handbrake will work for more than parking?

I don't think welding the diff would be a good idea, would make for some very interesting handling characteristics!

Thanks! Lot of mony though….

probably go there but later when its rolling and i have tested the strengt of the rear and front diff.

Just wonder if I go stock on gearbox i suddenly can go without rear or front drive?

With 3 open diff if you loose either front or rear then you loose it all. That why you can often manualy lock the center diff to try to get out of a difficult situation.

Or a Lada Niva, the next step is to also have a manual lock on the rear diff like the first Audi Quattro.

Todays work on the car….

The rollcage is now complete, little more welding to do though.

Some thoughts oboat the sunroof….

weld it like the original?

Screw it in the existing threads?

I think I  prefer welding so it looks like the original. If it was another car i would have used carbonfibre and screws

Up to this point……357kg rear and 317kg in front.

I think it will end at 1050-1100kg?

950kg like the original will be hard to build

Great project. I would go Haldex front and rear and a welded/spool centre. With Haldex controller you can control torque split and completely decouple an axle if you choose to. Also Haldex diffs tend to be 1:1 ratio.

Firewall complete and a metalcheet covering the former sunroof. I will weld the roof after the final welding of rolecage. Pretty handy

Hats off to you chap. I have seen loads of people threaten to make a T16 replica over the years, many get no further than chopping a perfectly good shell to pieces. Clearly you are well on the way and very likely to finish it by the looks. Well done and i am following with interest.

Thanks!!

As the build progress I’ll get more and more positive. I could sit for 20 minutes just watching the car and feel happy its going forward.

I have only one concern……..how I will attache the rear diff to the gearbox and not stress the bearing in gearbox?? Have some ideas but not 100%
