Unpacked my GTI 6 calipers ready for overhauling tomorrow along with front hubs. Bought a new front lower bumper.

Went and picked up a free garage that was up for grabs on Gumtree. Had to dismantle it and bring it home in two trips. Pretty tired now.

Went for the mot and passed. Can't believe it 27 years old and still passing mot's first time and its far from the likes of Craig or Tom Fentons laser greens cars condition.

It's not quite original though but still no rot or anything dropping off it daily.

Rode my bike past it and wiped off the bird poo.

Thought about replacing the rear arm bush mountings. Thought about removing and reconditioning squeaky air blower/demister. Thought about washing car as it's a nice day.

Ended up washing just the wheels and driving around aimlessly for hours on end. Will go out for another spin in a bit too. You know you have the right car when it still puts a smile on your face, even years after you bought it :)

Bought some Mcguires Dash Restorer so I can hopefully get it looking a bit more normal instead of faded grey this weekend.

Painted tyre walls. Gives it a little more of a "Rally" look. Just need those front mud flaps on and i'm done :)

Drove it to pugfest.

By the time I got home I'd covered a quarter of the distance that I had in the last 12months.

I have covered three times the amount of miles today than in the last 14 months!

Picked up the 205 from The Wheel Specialist in Bournemouth. Peugeot EVE paint, new centre caps, wheel bolts and Falken 914's all round. The finish is absolutely stunning, i'm well chuffed...

I'm stopping at my mothers this week in the area I grew up, as it's not far from Prescott and Lisa and I had some time off work.

Tonight I went to a pub about 10 miles away to meet with my dad and his mates who've been going to the pub on a Tuesday for years.

Drive the 205 back down A and B roads I know well, with hardly any traffic, bloody loved it, the 205 GTI 1.6 really is a massively rewarding thing to drive, no it's not outright quick to modern standards, but with no PAS you take it by the scruff and really drive it, scream the willing engine round to 6500rpm, it's such awesome fun, and I have to say it's made all the work restoring it and refurbishing all the suspension and brakes totally worth it, if only for that 10 minute drive.

The 1.6 is a brilliant car! With no PAS they're amazing on sweeping twisties and are really rewarding when pressing on. Feel hyper compared to the 1.9 which I feel suits the car and I'm torn between the two models.

Took the beam, fuel tank, rear brakes and associated brackets off the car ready for refurb. Every single nut/bolt came off no trouble! chuffed! Popped over to Frost automotive for some Dinitrol under seal and went to work with a flap disc on the localised rust spots. Wipe down, arch wash and prep today prior tp re seal tomorrow. :)

+ 5... agreed, strange why modern cars just don't do that... or is it just a trick on the mind and it's the memory that's so good?

I only know the 1.9 and love the torque in a light car... so despite my doubts, we're going ahead with the 1.6 for the rally car project, love the idea of the square bore, hoping it will impress as we have a really, really nice proven head for it, will update you when there is more.

Straightened out my rear towing eye. Noticed by Goliath on his deep clean.

Wire brushed a bit of rust on it. Treated with rust remedy thingymajig and sprayed black.

Also treated my spare wheel cage at the same time.

No, I don't think it is. Modern cars are so well soundproofed and have over power assisted steering & brakes that you are so detached from where you need to be. The ultimate levels of grip & performance they have is high so yes they are fast but there's less feedback - you don't feel it. I took my mother in law's 1.2TSI Fabia Estate down the lanes a while back to see what it was like - nice enough to drive and all that and then I looked at the speedo and decided to slow down somewhat before I got arrested. No sensation of how fast you were going whatsoever.

Got my Goodwood through its MOT , did nothing more than check the bulbs and warn the MOT guy it does not have a Cat . No advisories and only cost £25 at the garage 1/2 a mile from my house .Result .

Cured some Oil leaks - distributor oil seal and cam cover gasket. Fitted a new distributor cover bag which I was waiting to do once the oil leak was sorted.

Then... Caught the tail end of the old Wheeler Dealers episode on Discovery Turbo..featuring the 205.... I missed the first three quarters though... usual story: Edd puts on some new bits without cleaning any of the surrounding parts. Mike marvels at his work, then does the old grip and grin to turn a small profit, accounting for none of the labour, garage and tooling costs, etc... It's a reasonable enough formula though and I'm always drawn in. It's interesting to see how the program budget has increased over the years.
