[engine_work] Sleeper 1.6 Project

Phonecall from Miles today (before answering I thought "this is likely to mean more expense" xD) seems previous mechanic rounded off a headbolt so now gotta send the engine to have it milled off lol.

Plus side is that as the engine now has to come fully apart, it will get a thorough inspection.

I agree about the exhaust. Just a standard system on an Mi or '6 sounds cool anyway.

Bummer about the head bolt, but every cloud etc. Good excuse to check out those chocolate pistons. :)

As said today's findings where somewhat intresting, The only thing I didn't talk about was the new way of thread locking the cam cover bolt's in with RTV, thats a new one even to me

As you can see in the pic's it's a 6 engine which when finished will be allot cleaner.

The head bolt as you can see was a mare and one was completly rounded off, I think luck was on my side to get the one out in the picture,

Finally before I finished for the day, They used 2 inlet gaskets, Again I can only assume that because they come in packs of 2 they fitted 2

To give me more strength in the drivetrain, have decided to grab some 1.9 front driveshafts from Dr Sarty, and now trying to source some front hubs without ovalled ball joint holes.

Aquired some bargain 1.9 speedlines from the bay of fleas (arrived today)

IMG_0924.jpg

Not in urgent need of a refurb, but will get them done anyway, they look pretty darn nice with the gunmetal paint and alloy rim I think.

Will give me more options with brakes than the 1.6 speedlines.

Unpacked all the wheels today, was a job in itself!

The pictured wheel is the worst of the 4, with the corrosion under the paint. None have been kerbed, but one has a few scratches to the paint where a wheel nut obviously caused some difficulties.

2 just need a clean and a polish and will look fantastic, the other 2 can be tidied up without a full refurb, so gonna have a go myself and then get a pro to paint them.

An absolute steal at £82 the set with the original centres!

Nice set of T1R's and Job done.

Car now with Miles, good to meet you at last mate, your 306 looks awesome!

Have aquired a Xsara VTS 2.4 turns lock to lock PAS rack for the 205, should be nice with that on.

If anyone is after an engine and box for a VTS, I know of a breakers yard in barnsley with a 77k miler

The car hasnt been broken yet and is complete, so I am guessing it has an inlet manifold

Thanks for the kind words Baz... I can't wait to just drive the damn thing properly, although Sunday was good, it went real nice and was a fun drive down to Miles.

Looking good mate, I can come down and assist with the 8v removal this week, maybe do some engine bay cleaning as well..

Busy day at pugracing today

Removed all the parts ready to take the engine out of my car. Was remarkably easy, very few seized bolts, but managed to destroy many pairs og vinyl gloves

Just the engine mounts to undo for removal now!

Looks a clean bay that. Even the engine (by the gasket condition) looks clean too.

It was good that you kept yourself busy today considering your dad just died. *
