good progress, I bet that poor compressor is going flat out!

It's only a small gun but the compressor still has to work it's arse off! Not too bad though considering the guns at least 25 years old!

Dug this out of the XS:

Goes in this hole, and there isnt one in the RG. No wonder really as its held in entirely by sealant! :)

Dash all back in.

Putting a dash IN 5 months after you've taken it out is very VERY difficult and time consuming.

Done quite a bit today! Firstly I decided to reassemble the rear end (bumper and lights). All the wiring was a pain but I took the XS apart to find out what went where :P

P4010068.jpg

Then had a look at some plumbing. Got all the wiring and fuel line in :)

P4010069.jpg

P4010070.jpg

P4010071.jpg

Took longer than expected due to a faulty kill switch! It wont turn on :/ But I've bypassed it for now and all the electrics are working :)

And got the pedals and handbrake back in as well.

Next job is the screen.

just saying as i believe theres a certain clearance distance you have to have between your head and the rollcage. I've basically got my seat almost bolting to the floor

From the MSA blue book:

'An effective rollbar must be fitted with it's top edge not less than 5cm above the helmet of the normally seated driver'.

'Minimum height 72cm from the rear of the uncompressed seat cushion'.

Pretty sure it fits both of those but will check ASAP!

Had one of those afternoons where you do a lot but dont seem to get much done!

Fiddled with vacuum hoses (got them all sorted now!), wired in the manual switch for the cooling fan and cut some card templates for the polycarbonate windows. Not really any pictures to show!

Nice to hear it running again after so long... really feels like a car now rather than just a shell.

Had a very productive day today! Weather was good, confidence was high and I got loads done

Started off by wiring in the manual cooling fan switch. It had been there since we bought it and my dad said 'thats going to be the cooling fan switch' as soon as he saw it! The one to the right of the dash here:

P4040081.jpg

Tested it and it worked first time! Hopefully that's the end of our cooling troubles

Then I sealed and bolted on the roof panel, having finished spraying it yesterday. Used clear silicon sealant and sealed it around the outside of the bolts and then from the inside around the edge of the hole B)

P4040079.jpg

P4040088.jpg

While I had the sealant out I sealed up the hole filler in the floor:

P4040080.jpg

As you can see from the previous photos I also snuck in the windscreen! Decided to give it a bash on my own (obviously not literally :o) and using a piece of washing line it slid in with no effort whatsoever. Honestly... it took about 3 minutes maximum :)

That allowed me to then put the wiper on. It's a single wiper from a citroen BX that I picked up cheap, along with the extended pivot arm to suit and the washer spray bar on the arm. I think it looks hard as so I don't care what you think! :P;)

P4040085.jpg

P4040075.jpg

P4040086.jpg

Just the cage, windows and seats to go in! ;D Then it's MOT time :o

Having re-read the blue book it appears that for the Modified Production class in speed events the regulations for helmet clearance do not apply. Only for 'Racing Cars' and 'Sports Libre' cars.

Anyway... onto todays progress. Polycarbonate!!

Due to not having a proper non-opening rear window I had to take a template from the opening one as a rough guide for one window, and trim it to fit once cut, then use that as a template for the other side.

Process went something like: draw, cut, try, trim, try, trim, try, run for cover from rain, trim, try, file egdes, try, dodge rain again, trim, file edges, finally fit! Having done one side the other went in no problem.

P4050090.jpg

P4050089.jpg

P4050092.jpg

P4050093.jpg

Then it bucketed it down so we went for a drive.

When it stopped we had a go at the fronts. They were pretty easy, but involved drilling slots for bolts in the runners on the day that we ran out of collets for the dremmel. Out came the mini-file set and red raw hands!

As they are now:

P4050095.jpg

They're a bit loose at the bottom so i'll be sealing them in with more sealant as well. And obviously the protective coating needs to come off.....
