Sarty, will you be building a custom airbox/plenum type thing to house the second injectors in? I suppose you could fabricate a box out of ali sheet and fix a panel filter to the front?

Good to hear that it's running and mapped Rich, and be good to see how it goes with the niggles sorted and the power not tailing off prematurely

Good result Sarty. Not many of these projects ever get close to the mapper, so well done!

The good old 306. Popping at 1800 rpm while crawling through traffic, flames that warrant myself a telling off from the boys in blue for grilling there front bumper :lol:B)

my 205 used to pop flames all the time. Certainly never got tired of it  Might quieten down once you have no unmetered air entering the engine though.

get emerald on your laptop, hook it up to the ecu and turn off fuel feed on over-run and hey presto, its easy as that.

oh yeah i should add that thats a great result (my Mi made 145lb ft for comparison) and i cant wait to see how it compares!!

Fortunatley not, we are going to have some injector bosses made and place/weld them pretty close to the head so they point as close as can be to the back of the valves. so in reality a straight swap for the standard injectors.

Lookin good  When can we look forward to the on the road video? You know, the one where you gun it from 0 to 100 in traffic, while wearing a baseball cap and then the pair of you grin in to the camera like a pair of goons ;)

You just need to get some proper alloys now :)

Yes you will Phil, only unfortunately in my Laguna. But I'll have my inlet manifold with me; got to weld some injectors bosses on.

GLPooLover> Bought a new cap yesterday. It's white (naturally), to go with my puffa jacket. I've practised not wearing it properly, sitting up and not back in the seat, leaning to turn 5mph corners and constantly jigging one leg (like I have ADD or am off my skull on meth) whilst I balance my wrist on the top of the steering wheel as I look well 'ard cruisin' down to the local Spar for 20 'BnH'.

And the alloys are the "TSW Iddy Biddy Check 1-2" models from the I don't GAF range Steve.

:)

I'm going to make it my new year's resolution to convince you to ditch the Tacky Silly Wheels LOL. If you don't GAF about the looks, you should get some C5 steelies instead :)

And I hope you remembered to team that white cap with an FCUK long sleeved T-shirt and gold bracelet.

Here are my pics and a video. They're in order.

One question I pose to the forum, is in photo 4 with the 2 gorgeous Audi Quattros and the Porsche, I think the Pug is the prettiest. The Pug stirs my loins more than the others, in spite of them being better engineered, better built, faster (probably) and worth more. Just my opinion?

I'll get the graph scanned in better and reposted. The 188lbft torque is the blue peak at around 4,600 not 4,200rpm as I had said previously. This peak is a measurement anomoly too, and a better and more fitting reading would be something like 182-3lbft, which is only going to get better as the engine loosens and the second injector bank goes in this weekend .

I'm no expert, but it makes me giggle that standard Mi16 peak torque is 133lbft if I remember. This graph at less than 2000rpm already starts at over 140lbft, hovers at 160lbft and then launches skywards. It's an interesting drive and it'll take some getting used to. I can't frickin' wait. PMSL, no honestly, I am, RPMSL.

P.S. My Bosch lambda probe failed as well near the end of the day, which is another £60 up in smoke! Grrr.

P.P.S. Dave Walker of Emerald doesn't rate Innovate LC-1s at all.

God no, 4th place by a mile. Speedlines or something else nicer would help it's cause though  [Dons flamesuit]

How long until you have some results from the new mods?

Very much my opinion too. Well, apart from those f***ing hideous wheels!

As I get older I get less and less tolerant of cars that say, "hey, look at me!", and I've never exactly been a big fan. The 205 is an enduringly pretty shape that isn't over-stated and that combined with its predigree and reputation makes me prouder to own one than I'd ever be with some stupid small-cock supercar.

known you for a couple of years now rich, and I have to say we've had words about those wheels before, now I know I'm not the only one.. You deserve better.

fancy some super stealth alu Steelies like me? only 60 per wheel brand new from pug.... or sniper internet tastic.

or for something slightly more sexy... Batfink has something tucked away that no one else has... talk to him softly and he might let you inside the inner circle, use the force luke.

Super Josh

Lovely amount of torque, but blimey Rich, what happens at 4.5K for the torque to drop off like that? Is this a problem with the Bike 'Bodies? What was Uncle Dave's prognosis?

Are you still running the PeterT 'Stage I' and standard exhaust cam? Did DaveW do any tweaking to the cam timing?

Josh

We didn't touch cam timing and yes, it's still the PeterT stage I cam & std Pug exhaust cam, which probably doesn't help matters TBH with myself.

Even Matt at QEP said when he'd finished building the engine, that the cam spec was mega mild for the engine and won't be liberating anywhere near as much from the 2.2 as it could. Hence, the forthcoming cam swap: inlet (PeteT stI) going onto the exhaust and a juicy PeteT stII going on as an inlet.

Then that is where this engine stops evolving. (Honest)

As for Dave's prognosis, it was IHHO (! :D ) that the inlet manifold runners having a quite sharp angle where they meet the FLANGE!!! (Flange :(:) ) could be causing a 'fuel drop off'. This will be something which will be rectified most likely by the second set of injectors firing straight onto the back of the valves at a beneficial angle.

Failing that, I'll have to talk to Bogg Bros, as in hindsight it seems - that whilst making your own manifold is an adventure - £200 with them is reassuring money well spent on a quality product.

Today up in Macclesfield (apart from ending up behind a yellow 205 Rallye J911 YNF), I literally stumbled upon JB Exhausts who seem to be exhaust system and manifold Gods; I even met the boss Jonny by pure luck. They have my current inlet and are welding on some angled bosses ready for the new '6 injectors (from 16v205 on here) which will fire fuel in as desired AND mate up with the standard GTI6 (and second) fuel rail, which will bolt in via two of the manifold bolts.

Back to your question Josh. Dave didn't think that my fuel pressure needed altering, i.e. raising from the rather meagre 2.8bar spec of the standard R1 TB FPR which is currently fitted. However, the second set of injectors will also bring to the party the GTI6 FPR which in series with the R1 jobbie will increase fuel pressure. The combination of all of these things could have (read: will have) a noticable effect, with a second, shortened mapping session on the engine's performance.

In JB Exhausts they were true professionals too: very knowledgable and helpful. A small crowd of very talented metalworkers/fabricators/engineers with the boss, gathered around my pile of bits and owned the problem. I was most impressed. Jonny even smiled and said he used to have a 205 GTI, saying what a great little car it was. Very on side, and most supportive.

It ain't what you know again. It's complete chance, and sucking up to everyone like a paid lacky!
