What Have You Done To Your 205 Today?

Nothing, again :P

ZX is going for welding next weekend, got round to swapping the dampers on my BMW, old fronts had no bump stops or damping left, and sat too high, rears also had no bump stops and sat too low, front arch gap has halved and the rear has come up about an inch.

Sitting on Alpina 535i springs and B8 inserts, noticeably firmer than before, not sure I like it but its not crashy.

Fitted new wheel bearings, rebuilt my gti6 calipers, painted anti roll bar and replaced my lower front bumper. Next to get everything on the car!

Realised a 205 with plastic windows all round is the hottest thing to be inside on the south coast in traffic when it's touching 30 c outside.

Actually cleaned it too.

Swapped my camshaft seal and HG. Both were leaking oil. Thought it was just the can seal but the HG was blatantly weeping oils from the head oil feed.

On the downside, the thermostat cover disintegrated when I tried to remove the hose, the sad-manifold air pipe was split at the manifold and one of my recently fitted cv boots has decided to explode.

So after a whole day on the car I now have more things wrong than when I started and I have no idea if I have fixed the issues I set out to until I can get the engine oil and water tight...

:-(

Beam's on with new gas Billies, thanks Kam racing, brakes are on and bled, rear wheels back on and off the axle stands. Pugs got his nose in the air now as the rears lowered. Got a can of petrol ready to turn it around in the morning and start the front. Plenty of work here I reckon as the heater wasn't working and there was smoke when warm. Its been stood since 96 so I reckon the matrix is blocked. just hope it doesn't leak when it's washed through. Wish me luck. :P

To be honest, the matrix is such an easy job on a 205 and the replacements are cheap enough, I'd say just change it whilst you are there.

Gave my little Pugster a wash as he was looking a bit scruffy after doing the rear end. I've still loads to do but had a garage tidy up and couldn't resist giving him a quick wash.

Finished building up a manual steering rack from a spare GTI PAS rack , will be going on my Miami Blue 309 .All power parts removed , new track rod , track rod end and 2 gaiters

Did some more priming and painting of the underside of the 309 , still more to do though .

Put a PSCUK calling card on the windscreen of a Miami Blue 205 GTI in Edmonton , London , just a few hundred yards from where I grew up .

MOT'd the 205 first thing this morning so that's got another years ticket on it.

Realised that I'd only done a frankly pitiful 1100 miles odd last year in the old girl (admittedly I did best part of 10k in my other 205 that I sold earlier this year) and decided to remedy that, taking advantage of the light traffic and went on a celebratory 40 mile cross-country blat to work.

Glorious sunshine, minimal traffic and twisty roads - makes the spannering time and ownership hassles absolutely worthwhile :)

Fitted a new battery and dragged it out of the garage to see day light for the first time in over a year (busy times) gave her a quick rinse and pre-MOT check. Next to book the MOT...

Painted the area above the fuel tank and in front of rear valance. All that is left to do is drop the beam.

Well after a few months of no progress... gave the old girl a wash and polish and started putting the back trim back on... Starting to look more like a GTi again!

Rolled into Aston Martin where my mates work and sorted a few niggles as you do and a gearbox leak, adjusted the suspension for the uk roads did some testing and it's much smoother :)

Then had a passenger ride in a 5.0 charged F type and jizzed my pants.

Started the morning with intention of clearing my garage to get car in and give it a waxing.

This partially involved getting 9 sheets of kingspan out and up into my loft.

After a measure of my loft hatch I decided to cut them to fit inside my roof trusses, the GF then suggested that since they were cut to size I'd be as well fitting them. Having had a lot of play time lately I agreed (knowing full well I'm wanting out tonight a blast).

3hrs later, I decided to totally gut my garage to make way for CJ and GTI for the winter.

This involved clearing and dismantling 9m of 4 tier racking/shelving and rebuilding it elsewhere in the garage.

My garage is a double, but its double long ways.

The garage is nowhere near ready but I found lots of little spares I forgot I had.

The cars should eventually fit with a grand total of 200mm between bumpers, and I might need to do a Dukes of Hazard to get out the CJ.

It's amazing how much s*it/stuff you can collect through life.

The car never got waxed.

Slo, it came up cheap local, one owner, 49k miles, and reasonably good nick, and the GF said she liked it.
