Anyone Recognise This Engine?

Recommended Posts

deathbringer929

Hi jazz, no they never. But the first time I called the engine was £200, then when I went to see it he said the exhaust manifold and downpipe, and loom were spoken for, and the engine was then £100.

I recon the guy who bought the loom noticed it, and mentioned to scrappy, or he would probably have bought the lot?

Not too fussed though tbh. At least I have another to reference when trying to reassemble the bits i've dismantled off your one lol

Yours is beginning to look quite pretty btw, I'll let you see it when I'm done with it before its in the car

Your doing this on a budget yet not fussed at spending £100.00 on what is probably a scrap engine!?

for the love of god get it fitted....

MadSc,,,,, hands on with cars is not my forte by any mannor of means.

But i'm learning!

Took a clutch off today, and attempted a timing belt change (although there has been a glitch!)..... big achievement for me though!

You've got to start somewhere, and credit to you for applying yourself to it.

It was just when you were talking about taking it to the petrol station and blowing smoke into the cyclinder! Really tickled me!

Just fit it!

MadS.... if i dropped an engine off at your door, that looked like it's been selling the big issue all it's days, would you put it in your pride and joy? lol

How to make a mountain out of a mole hill, by this thread.

By now, and with the money from that scrap engine you could have taken the head off, visually inspected. Do the old petrol in the upside down head an refitted with new belt and gasket safe in the knowledge it's good. Mental.

Mad: No blowing smoke into cylinder..but cigarette smoke across the engine to figure out where the clean air gets from...but we got your point..lol

I don't understand all the b.s. about "wrecking" the "pride and joy". Utter crap. Put it in. If it's no good, take it out.

Well said tom! Some one needed to give the tough love. There is nothing about a gti6 conversion that isn't reversable, Christ, nothing about my v6 goodwood that isn't reversable.

So, you think

Take 1.9 out and all the stuff associated with taking it out

Put GTI6 in, and do all the stuff that goes with it

if its no good

Take GTI6 out, and all the stuff associated with getting it out

Get it fixed if need be

Put GTI6 back in, and all the stuff associated it.?

I think a more logical approach (for me with no engine changing experience, and who doesn't particularly want it) is to

Test the engine as far as practicable

Take 1.9 out and all the stuff associated with it

Put GTI6 in, and all the suff associated with it

and cross my fingers.

I know I am a bit biased but you are worrying far too much, once you start you will realise how simple it really is to change engines. At the end of the day its only nuts and bolts

I would of bought an engine in the first place that was known good, you can do all the compression related tests you like but it won't show up if the bottom end bearings etc are dead.

Just put it in as it is and see, otherwise rebuild it or buy a decent engine from a decent known source.

I don't think it is much possible the bearings are dead and everything else like rings be fine..
