[car_overhaul] Reshell, Restore And Rebuild

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

well after two weeks of mornings flatting all the orange peel and runs out of the car there was enough of a break in the weather to start polishing the car today.

i managed to get the bonnet and passenger wing done and given the fact it was sprayed by me (first time spraying a whole car) in a single garage im very impressed.

granted its not perfect but im happy with it.

heres a couple of pics before it started to rain again.

Looks flawless from here :D I'm really liking the GTI look with the Rallye arches, the nimrods really work as well. Amazing colour too!

Looking forward to seeing it done

thanks alot, im not sure if im being to picky but there are still some hazy patches that i could polish out some more.

im seriously thinking black for the wheels as all the trim is black also going for red inserts and decals on the quarter badges.

Well done buddy it looks a decent job, and more than anything you have done it yourself. Personal opinion don't paint the wheels black, it's a dull/dark colour so needs the silver and red details to lift it, just my opinion.

yeah when i had the wheels on it when it was graphite i was 100% they needed to stay silver but with the colour now being a slate grey im not so sure??

maybe a darker silver like anthacite or something.

cheers for the comments though, makes all the hours or graft worth while

and yeah they are ebay arches, pretty good fit all round tbh, they only need a little bit of trimming here and there.

I think the front bumper should be painted would have looked ok if arches where black

Looks a brilliant job, one that i wouldn't attempt to do myself :)

Agreed on dark car - light coloured wheels statements, the bumper would look better being the same colour as the arches too imo.

im in two minds about this too, i agree it would look better but would it look 'right'?

ive got to repaint the valances anyway so may just paint the bumpers too and see how they look as ive got a couple of litres of paint left. if it looks worng i can always paint them black again i suppose.

I reckon body colour bumpers with the chrome inlay strip would look good, with the wheels in silver of course.

mini update:

ive removed the xu7 from the 306 and removed the head and other parts i dont need along with doing the same for the xu10 engine but only keeping the head.

it got a good degrease and clean which brought it up like this:

then after a little deliberation i decided to paint the head gloss black:

IMG_0876.jpg

IMG_0878.jpg

i now have the wideband o2 that i got from Anthony (cheers) so i have to wire that in along with some tidying of the loom using the round multiplugs i pulled from the 306.

there is also some small spots that need tidying around the bay (even though i only painted it a few months ago and it hasnt really seen the road yet)

fingers crossed its not the head thats cracked (im too tight to pay for a pressure test) but if it turns out it is fubared i have a nice xu7 head here ready to be ported and have the 6 cams fitted etc.

I would at the very least check the height of the head and have it skimmed.
