does it really need work to the tunnel seeing as the ally block is shorter?

Surgery's a bit drastic too isn't it. I did mine by carefully applying heat and drifting it a little (butane torch, 4x2 wood & deadblow hammer), nice and neat.

It is a bit drastic, but something I don't mind doing. :)

why not MAKE the manifold fit rather than the shell?

or even drop the engine by 10mm?

Well I'd rather leave the manifold as it is really, since its stainless any cutting and welding will just mess up the inside. I may well look at dropping the engine, how do people normally do this? Just fit spacers to the engine mounts? Anyway, I really don't mind doing this as it will save me a lot of time and give me a lot more options for when I choose to make a manifold. :)

you're using the alloy engine mount and mi elbow right Cam?

a bunch of 8v head bolt spacers between the elbow and mount drops the drivers side nicely and an 8v bottom pulley washer between the gear box and the engine mount stud drops the gear box an similar amount. no need to do anything with the bottom mount (in fact it still fits perfectly with a solid fork bush on the lower fork like this :))

Wooo some actual progress other than painting! :D

Got some 3mm x 30mm stainless flat bar to make the integrated cambelt cover for my water pump blanking plate then got busy with the welder. ^_^

Just to inform anyone who's interested, I'm selling these bad-boys in the group buys section.

Looking good Cam, are you planning to use counter cunk bolts for the inner two on the blanking plate, looks pretty tight on the Mi tensioners set up  still all good

And also a set of these:

Looking good Cam, have fun sqeesing the brembos in there, it's pretty tight, back to 1600 hubs??

Yeah it should be fun! B) What's the deal with 1600 hubs?

deeper offset B) can't use gti6 discs though.

mounting lug spacing looks a fair bit wider than a pug one, might make the bracket easier to make?

Aha, the actual hub rather than the entire upright?

Yeah I wanted to find something with the mounting holes as wide and as close to the caliper body as possible so I have the maximum amount of space to make the adaptors. Will have to wait 'til they arrive and see how it all looks.

Not sure what discs I'll have to use though, and will also have to look into some higher spec pads for them.

DS3000's FTW!!!

easiest way would be to get some rotors and have custom bells made up (BGD by silverstone were doing bells to spec for £75 a piece, but that was 4 odd years ago)

I've been dreaming of running elise 2 pot AP's on custom rotors, if only I have some moneys B)

Yeah I think discs and bells is the way forward, that should give me the most flexibility. Will be dead easy to design a set of bells too. B)

*Prepares to be shot down*

Don't 1.6 hubs take a smaller driveshaft?

They do yes. Whether they are up to the job of a high powered 16v is another question, I've personally killed 1600 shafts on my Mi with Quaife diff, but whether that was because the shafts are not inherently strong enough, or whether it was that the ones I had were just fcuked, is another question.

Well I'll cross the hub bridge when I come to it but hopefully I'll be able to keep my 309 ones.

the answer to that quandry is you have the 1600 hubs machined to take 1900 bearings and robert is your fathers brother (a la Grp A hubs)

Are we talking about the hub carrier or hub here?

Carrier

Ah ok, and is it the position of the caliper mount that is offset then?

The hub face is 10mm further out than 1900 hubs, gives that bit of extra space.
