Definately the way to do it, gathering all the little bits you need before jumping in the deep end.

Also, you have waaayyy to much of the donor car loom there.

Having had a look through a couple of GTI6 conversion threads I've noticed most of them aren't using the six speed gearbox, including this one. Is there any particular reason for this?

I'm currently looking into doing this to my 309, so I'd also be interested to know if the subframe is needed from the donor car for this conversion.

Any help you could offer is gratefully received.

Fantastic looking car there djinuk. The orange wheels look great :(

You lose steering lock when turning right as the nearside tyre fowls the gearbox on full lock. You don't need the subframe from the 306/Xsara VTS, the 309 subframe will be fine.

You taking this car to the Pod DJ?

yea man i will be planning on running the strip, although my first trip to pod is the fastshow march 22nd, and i doubt the car will be ready by then, so instead i will be in my r5 turbo. Thanks for the compliments on the wheels, it was mostly a thing of the moment as we had some spare paint , and a spray gun lying around :(

Thanks. That seems a good enough reason not to do it.

I presume it's an Mi16/S16/XSi gearbox I should be looking out for then?

Well as a deposit has now been left for the engine i speant 45 mins towards removing it. Up went the car on its axel stands.

Off come lots of the coolant hoses

20102007456.jpg

Found i have a knackered ball joint (as expected)

20102007457.jpg

Whilst doing this i managed to pull my driveshaft apart. think i am just going to get a new one as there appears to be some play in this one.

Well Cut of the rotton bumper mounts today (will be ordering new from pug)

24102007472.jpg

Then took a good look around at the areas of rust to trackle. This is what i found. After much proding with a screwdriver though it appears none of it was weak/soft so all good. !!

8vloomremoved.jpg

Further poking at the inner wing and i find a hole :( cant really see it to well but basically the dark area needs welding up, luckily that should not be a prob from under the arch to get to.

archhole.jpg

then i speant some monnies on all the kit to make my own brake lines, also got a pair of the pipe bending pliers.

brakelinekit.jpg

and 7 bolts later the off comes the whole front subframe

subframeremoved.jpg

Then i turned attention to the engine block and stripped off the inlet etc to see exactly what i was working with and where the oil leak was from. oil3.jpg

Well another hard day work on the car, a bit closer , but stilll plenty more work to be done.

Wel the greasy subframe and other bits were treated to a £2.50 shappoo and rinse at the local petrol station.

Then the G man came over n whipped my front wings off, thanks man, (he also lost temper with one)

30102007512.jpg

And tom sat in my engine bay with the lil steamer

30102007507.jpg

which worked well

30102007508.jpg

Well had my welder cut out all of the rotton in the inner wing, and seam sealed them all up. Then Gray came over and gave my bay some paint.

only bit im not happy with is here where the seam sealer has had a bad effect and cracked, going to dig it out and re seal it and blow it in.

Also i got the brass linkage bush kit from baker bm, and i must say its fits great and has 100% removed play from it, damn good buy.

04112007525.jpg

Also got a nylon bush kit for the fork linkage.
