Those seats are how it came? Are they wrong then? I nave only cleaned them nothing else.

Someone's fitted a passenger side seat to the drivers side. The tilt winder handle should be on the inside by the seat belt clasp.

 

It's something commonly done to get a better condition seat for the inevitably worn drivers side, but it's the sort of detail that really should be correct in my eyes on a ~£20k car. You can move the covers over to a drivers side metal frame which is the proper way to do it, but it's a bit fiddly to do hence most just leave fit the passenger seat as-is.

 

That said, I imagine the sort of buyer that's likely to be in the market for such a car won't notice in the same way that you didn't.

If the shell is not from the original car and it's a new kit but not fitted by Dimma then it sounds like this car need to be re registered on a q plate and / or need a single vehicle type approval test at vosa as there's appears to be very little of the original car left

Didn't it start with a new, unregistered shell? If that's the case it's all quite legal as I understand and no requirement for Q-plates, IVA tests and the like, no different to Mini's, Landy's etc using new hertitage shells/chassis.

 

Quite clearly it's something else entirely if you do it using an already registered shell that has an ID and try putting another ID on it.

 

Obviously whether it's an "original" Dimma if the shell itself has been replaced is another argument entirely.

Mine has been built as to how heritage shells are done and as the new shell was unregisted it cannot be classed as ringing look into how many mini and mgs are using heritage shells and they aint ringers or on q plates there is still a fair amout of parts been used off the old car but as this is a full nut and bolt restoration would much of the old car had been left anyway. If I had kept my old shell it would have had new bonnet,new boot,new floor,new sills,new front end,new rear arches a lot of boot floor repaired doors would have been changed so wouldn't have been much left of it anyway

your exactly right Anthony brand new unregistered shell I even have the barcode plate off it from the factory. It might not be a original dimma anymore but most defiantly is still a genuine one.

David has sent me some more picture which I have hosted for him. But before posting just wanted to clear up the cost of restoration question.

 

My point is that maybe now or at some stage in the future the 205/car restoration/classic car community will realise that the cost of an OE restoration is astonishing (when compared to similar), had I know the final cost I'd never have started. Perhaps the differentiation between a properly restored car and an immaculate low mileage one is that the low mileage one will still have 25 year old seals, hoses, mounts, rubbers and plastics.

 

What would the following cost (all new OE) if you could get them.

 

Front bumper

Rear bumper

External trims incl red insert

Window quarter seal

Door seal (Grey)

Full Light set incl driving lights and backs

Bonnet insulation

2 sealing strips (under bonnet and tailgate)

Rear glass

1/4 badge set

Internal carpets

 

So I think any OE restoration (if at all possible now) will easily be north of £20K
