Woop! Got my release bearing today, looks pretty good..

IMAG0026.jpg

IMAG0027.jpg

Looks much better! :)

So I got to fitting it, but had a little difficulty with the flywheel. Turned out that the dowel hole had been machined slightly in the wrong place, I think the PCD was out by about 1mm which meant it wouldn't fit on properly. A bit of careful filing of the hole later and it fits very nicely.

IMAG0029.jpg

Then realised that I still don't have the bolts to fit my clutch - doh! So I'll have to put this on hold while I source some.

Turned my attention to the doors instead, I'd finished chopping the excess weight out of them and bonding the plastic windows in. Only got one done at the moment but I'll work on the other tomorrow.

A box full of crap I took out of the door. :o

IMAG0030.jpg

This is what it looks like now..

IMAG0031.jpg

Also, in the absence of millions of clamps while I bonded the windows in, I used my engineering skillez to create some nice little cardboard wedges to hold the window in nice and tight while the Sikaflex cured.

IMAG0032.jpg

So one door is done, and very nice and light! I think it's easily half the weight of what it was previously! :)

I hadn't to be honest, I was thinking about entering it into hillclimbs but I'm not so sure I could get it into a class where it would be competitive.

I'm at Oulton Park next Wednesday, will be there again in May hopefully, and at Brands in May / June too. Got a very busy year planned. :D

nice, the only reason i mention the trackday trophy is that its one of the only things a heavily modified 205 is eligible for. They only run a power to weight regulation with 4 classes I think. Hoping to have the car ready by june and then onto a track soon after, so maybe see you at one of them.

Looked into this myself but power to weight is something like 200bhp per ton and cameron is too light with too much power, or could run serious ballast?

Ah.. Yeah my car is around the 220bhp/ton mark assuming the weight is a pretty conservative 800kg.

800 is a good weight,

lighter than mine with the C5's as thats was 810 :)

sadly ditched them, now :( so it's a bit heavier, but it has a little more power so dont really care..lol

that section of the door you have left, is worth removing, (going to do mine) as it's quite a heaving part of the door

clutch and flywheel, looks amazing,

really could do with getting a flywheel

You could get it into Eurosaloons. Thats where I want to head... Basically anything goes in the modified class.

so basically he would get into class C?

with my 205 being SC'd that would be class C as well?

Class A caters for some awesome machinery such as Mid and front engined two seater sports or GT cars over 3000cc or with forced induction, Escort & Sierra Cosworth 4wd, Mitsubishi Evo 4wd, Subaru Impreza 4wd, Nissan Skyline 4wd and some FIA classified cars.

Class B is for factory built Touring cars, 2007 onwards model year Seat Cupra challenge cars, and other modifieds over 3500cc

Class C allows smaller engined Modifieds between 1750cc and 3500cc, Mid- and front engined two seaters (1600cc to 3000cc normally aspirated), Production Modifieds over 3500cc and Production over 6000cc

Class D accepts Modifieds up to 1750cc, Mid and front engined two seaters up to 1600cc, Production Modified 2000cc to 3500cc and Production 3500cc to 6000cc. Renault Clio Cup and Renault Megane Cup cars will run in Class D for 2011.

Class E pits smaller engined Production Modifieds up to 2000cc with Production spec cars up to up to 3500cc

There is also a non-championship invitation Class F available to allow cars meeting the spirit if not the letter of the regulations to race with us on an occasional basis.

I'd love to do circuit racing, but it's very expensive isn't it? Seems that stuff gets broken a LOT!

Spiky - do you mean the bit below the window? I wasn't sure about removing that in case it made the door a bit too flimsy..

yeah, and yeah it will be flimsy, i was going to rivery a peice of ally angle in there to help, as thats quite thick metal there

Spiky, yours would count as a 2.8 litre so would fall into class c.

Personally I'm going for Class D with a smaller engine.

I got a big bag full of assorted 12.9 grade socket screws today, so could start putting everything back together. For those who are interested, I used a place called Namrick to source them all at a decent price - Namrick Nut & Bolt Store

Here's a shot for all you bolt fans.. I used M8 x 35mm socket screws and they're the perfect size. Also used my handy SAE fastener tightening torque table (mmm.. alliteration!) to look up a suitable torque and used some Loctite on them.

IMAG0034.jpg

IMAG0033.jpg

Shame you're never going to see it really!

So after that I got to this stage and decided to save the rest for tomorrow, then went to do some work on my new road 205. :D

IMAG0035.jpg

So things are looking pretty good, all I need to do is put the front end back together and fill it back up with gearbox oil and coolant, then put the wheels back on and it's ready. As long as there are no major clutch related problems I'll have plenty of time before Oulton next Wednesday. I'll then be using my long weekend to modify my ZX trailing arms with the SBC negative camber stub axles I picked up from Tom, which should give me a cool 2.5 degrees of camber at the rear. :)

Looking good Cam, won't be long now till it's tearing round Oulton again! Wish i could make it along in mine but I'm working <_<

I was considering the MSV Trackday Trophy myself, looked into it quite seriously and I'm fairly certain the power/weight class structure is calculated with power @ the wheels mate so yours wouldn't be chucked in the same class as the m3s etc...

It's alive!! :D

Finished putting it back together this evening and after dealing with the flat battery, started it up! :D

th_VIDEO0001.jpg

It picks up so nicely now, really revs easily with only a little dab of throttle! And the clutch is actually really really nice to use, I'm so glad I went for a cerametallic one as it has just enough slip to stop it being a complete pain in the arse. I only went back and forth on the drive a few times (due to no tax MOT or insurance.. or doors!) but it feels really good, a little slip, then a big powerful bite point. :D

So that's a big fat tick off my list, all I have left to do now is re-fit the doors and swap over the trailing arms. Oh and get some ARB drop links!

Does look nice and responsive :) Is that a stall at the end though :P

Just doing a few nice bits to mine as well actually. Fitted a TTV flywheel, new valeo clutch, rebuilt 1.9/4.4cwp gearbox off Baz and having some uprated driveshafts made. Spending BIG bucks

and connect the rev counter? :D

Its certainly sounding great. You will enjoy the way the engine picks up on acceleration once you properly use it in anger :D

Holy crap no wonder you can't afford Brands! :o

Who's making your driveshafts?

Yeah it did stall at the end  I need to sort the idle fuelling out for the hot weather, it's currently mapped for winter. Rev counter just doesn't want to work with the Emerald so I gave up and bought an external one.

Sorry to hijack, oil pug how much was the box? STD 1.9 ratios?

Aye tell me about it Cam  the bank balance has taken a hit this month! I've been wanting to do these bits for ages though because the car always felt slightly lazy and awkward on track due to the gearing. Hopefully this box and flywheel will tie everything together nicely. I've also swapped my diff settings to 30/60 ramps like you I believe which will give me a better turn-in "in theory" :)

Driveshafts are been done by Dave Mac Props in Coventry.

Spiky, I'd rather not talk money on here, it gets me depressed. But it's a 1.9 be3 gearbox with mi16 4.4 final drive so good ratios for a 170ish bhp track car, maybe too short for your wee supercharged beasty though!
