Looking nice, good progress. Is the rear beam fitted up now?

Yes mate reconditioned 306 beam is fitted!! Now I can build a new bump stop and then remove it for the last time and finish painting underneath.

Did a fair bit more on the cage today, just the 2nd door bars to finish the gussets and decide if I am going to do some kind of front triangulation or not.

Door bar nicely misses the door handle! I meant that - honest...

Very nice, cage looks great. Is the beam wider than a 309's?

306 beam (not sure on all of them but this one anyway - GTi-6 or HDi DTurbo) is aboue 40mm wider than a 309 GTi beam.

Wow nice project. good job on fitting the 306 beam, 309 beams seem to go for silly money nowadays, although i guess there's sod all of them left in good condition...

shame that @ 40mm bigger than a 309 beam there's no way they're ever getting on a 205 without some serious arch work

Picked these up this afternoon, I couldn't believe how light they feel, even with 205/65R15 tyres, compared to my speedlines. Even the friday evening traffic couldn't dampen my spirits...a good find I think....

Hopefully I'll finish the cage and the rear bump stops on Sunday and all the welding will be done :)

Yeah i'm not sure on red - might look a bit like a banger racer! I don't want too many colours tho, red cage, red bumper trims and everything else graphite grey obviously. White might work...or maybe just leave them as they are....don't know... :)

Nearly finished the cage today. I had been undecided about going to the front struts but thought I should do really as I've got this far so spent all morning and a bit of the afternoon doing just that....

Then I did the tunnel brace....

Then started to plate the holes I cut...

I then ran out of gas (I say I - but my Dad was doing all the welding :) ) so stopped for the day.

Just need to finish the door bars and the cage is done (bar gusseting).

Looks really good, very comprehensive cage so shell should be lovely and stiff now. Well done! :)

Are you planning to make the front track any wider to match the rear?

Some good work going on though. Wish I had the space and skills to do more of the work on my 309.

I didn't want to make the front any wider but I've had to fit some 20mm spacers to fit the 406 V6 Brembo's (under standard speedlines) so basically the front and rear track have both increased by about the same amount.

Today I finally finished the 306 beam conversion by building some new bump stop mounts. I welded a nut on the inside so just need to get some new standard bump stops and screw them in:

Then I removed the rear bumper and got filthy preparing the underside (as far forward as the fuel tank) and primed it:

I then started on my pedal box:

I'll finish that once I get the master cylinders.

Then I cut out all the gussets for to finish the cage (and tested my hydraulic hole punch far left):

I need to get something turned up to flare the holes in the gussets before I can weld them in. Nackered now!

Ahhhh, I was so close to buying a set of those MG calipers! I decided not to as the mounts stick out quite far and limit your options with making brackets and I'm kinda glad now. :D

Nice build though, some good work on the beam mounts etc. :D
