  1. Can anyone help me identify a part? Where the rear brake pipes turn to go from outside to inboard part of car, in front of the fuel tank, on either side there are large (very rusty!) cylinders, approx 2 cm diameter, 6cm long. Are these purely connectors between 2 sections of solid brake pipe? They seem ridiculously large, heavy and (rusty!) if that's all the are....... Suggested replacements?
  2. Hey Standard electrical problems. I've worked out what it is but just looking for advice. Everything off fuse 8 is not working (Horn, Rear Demister & Cigarette Lighter). Fuse is OK (changed just in case). All relays OK. I've got the fusebox out to inspect with a mulit-meter and continuity test. Basically, everything is working except the join from M3 to the fuse F8. All the runs from the +ve side of the fuse are OK. My question is there any tidy way to repair this? I'm reluctant to buy a second hand fusebox as it might fail somewhere else. I'm keeping an eye on eBay for a new one but nothing yet apart from the old one without the AA socket. I'm good with a soldering iron and would like to just re-solder the F8 joint and the M3 joint but annoyingly they are both hidden on the middle board and you can't open it up without removing the solder from every single joint! The only thing I can think of doing is run a cable with an inline fuse from F8 to M pin 3 but that's horribly messy. Any suggestions welcome. PS, mods thanks for adding the functionality to upload pics!
  3. Hi, I have just had new rear shoes and pads and also new cylinders and brake cables fitted to my gti which is all standard. One of the brakes though is locking and getting hot but the other is fine. Even with the offending shoe completely slackened off it is locking slightly. They are the Girling type brakes, could this be a master cylinder problem or is this possibly something else?
  4. Hello, had a look through all the topics relating to the rear calipers on the 1.9 Gti but can't find anything about my problem. As far as I know they are the same apart from the 30/32mm piston diameter. Anyway the problem I am having is when I rebuilt the beam I replaced rear flexes, handbrake cables disks and pads with brand new and fully rebuilt the rear callipers including brand new pistons. Now I have rebuilt the back end and bled the brakes and they work well apart from when I release the brake pedal the rear brakes bind heavily, the only thing that releases the rear brakes is to apply the handbrake firmly and release. Also if I loosen the pad carrier bolts the brake frees up but binds again once I nip them up again. Calipers sliders are in good condition and move freely and handbrake cables are not holding brakes on. Any recommendations or ideas would be welcome. Graham.
  5. Hello everyone. I was trying to hook up a nice feature to the reading light (feature to make the light stay on for 20 seconds after doors are closed) , And I happened to make a small electrical short that after that happened , all back left lights are not working anymore , even brake lights , and also back plate light . Changed the lamps there , and made sure all connections on the fusebox are firm and not loose but still no light . What should I be looking for? Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi all Assembling my GTI , and got confused with these wires : The long red & green wire - where does it go? and in the second photo , the one i am holding. one should be for reverse for sure , but none of them seems to work.
  7. Still unsure if you can actually fit a turret into the rear of a torsion bar equipped pug, I thought I'd post up the actual wording of the regs, and see what people reckon. so; Technical regs for Stage rallying, page 303 2012 Yearbook. but.. its still a trailing arm with a torsion bar... Any Scrutineers about?
