Winter Tyres/summer Tyres

Recommended Posts

I've been toying with the idea of running my 1.9 alloys with R888s - I see this as a summer tyre/trackday tyre as when the going gets really wet they don't have the water shedding capabilities.

This made me think that a set of winter tyres on some steelies might be a good idea. I'm not talking a full on studded ice killer, but a tyre designed with colder temperatures and wetter weather in mind. I think this concept is a bit alien to us here in the UK because it doesn't get that cold, but in mainland Europe it is mandatory in many countries regardless of snow.

Cost-wise, winter tyres aren't that dear ~£40 a corner

Ayone already doing this? Is this overkill?

I've used uniroyal wet weather tyres in the past and they work really well. Deep tread does the trick.
