Tyre Choice?

Hmm this is all very interesting. to be honest i think toyos will do the job for me plus they are a bit cheaper than f1's. just been on www.tyre-shopper.co.uk and they say that avon zv3's are better that f1's?

I've heard good things about the F1's, Toyo's TR1's, Michelin Pe2's....really seems like what sort of money your willing to shell out.

 

I went for the toyo's due to me using them in the wet and dry with good reaction's (especilly the Pug-Fest when the hill climb was abit wet ) and that they were cheap.

 

I got mine from Black Circles with the forum discount, next day delivary as standard.

I've been running toyos on all my cars to date and find them very impressive in wet and dry conditions, just seem to grip and grip, but in saying that i've never run anything decent apart from yoko a539 on my vts which were pretty poor in my eyes. They do wear relatively quickly but they are dirt cheap from the likes of camskill so well justified i think!

toyo t1'r brilliant tyre considering the price you pay. thats what my 205 came with when i got it when they needed changing i had the same dilemma do i put another set on or buy some eagle f1's. i bought eagle f1's and in the dry there's not much difference in performance between the two but in wet condition's so eagle's are so much better

I'm just about to collect my 1.9 GTi after having a set of Yokohama Parada Spec 2 195/50R15's fitted. The last posting thread I read these seemed to be rated as highly as Eagle F1's, but no one has mentioned them in this thread! Have I made a poor decision? Should I have got Eagle F1's?

Crap in the wet, and good but underwhelming, not amazing in the dry as i'd expected after driving screwloose's Mi on them last week.

I've tried them before and all I can say is they were in the same league as my P600's......shocking

 

Saying that though it was quite awhile agi I used them....not sure if they were spec 2....is that a new version?

Course not! Don't get me wrong they're far from rubbish! 10mile drive was hardly enough to form a great opinion, i understeered a little round a bend a little, disappointngly, expecting the tyres to be great after all the raving about them, that's all, not exactly a major moment though, or enough to put me off having a set.

Parada's are good for track use as they dont' tend to fall apart from the heat like F1's but don't offer the same grip.

 

They're faily similar to the A539's really, they certainly work ok

IMO anything will seem an improvement on the Avons- got the 195/45/15 ZV1s on the 1.9 - worst tyre I've ever had in the wet

Really. Not looked much into Avons really. My daily Primera GT has one on the rear and a Fate O on the other side (ultimate wet tyres, with no throttle required opposite lock ). The Fate O needs replacing so the Mrs can drive it, and kinda was hoping the Avons were semi ok to just chuck one on

 

 

I've never tried the F1's but have heard they wear quicker then the toyo's.

 

Id say the opposite from owning both. My brothers 2.0 16v 205 went through the fronts fairly quickly.

I'm getting on very well with the F1s on my DTurbo. They are 195/50s and rub like hell. It seems the combination of a non GTi shell with the smaller arches, lowering 45mm and wide tyres is not ideal.

 

Very grippy though, although I dont expect them to last any longer than my previous Proxes to be honest.

 

Fitted a pair of (rather expensive) 195/55 Conti PremiumContact 2s to the 306 last week and these are very impressive, although quite boring to look at. Quiet aswell.

Yep, I had 4 165/55 13s for my Polo for £100 delivered from camskill! They say next working day, but thats as long as they have them in stock, and they dont seem to hold much stock. They'll happily tell you when they an get them to you if you ring and ask though

Avon ZV1s on my XS were great, when i replaced them they had ZV3s, which i thought would be similar, but they were dangerous!! Goodyear F1s were good on road, but i did wonder why i was understeering on dry track so much, so as Baz said, maybe not the best when v hot, although when wet, on track they were very good.

I have now got R888s, though not yet had the chance to try them.

nobody runnig on Yokohamas? i recently fitted Yokohama C-Drives in 195/50 R15, and i am quite pleased with them so far.

they offer lots of grip, while ride comfort is not at all inferior to the 14" wheels i used before.

 

yokohamas generally are a bit on the soft side, and are said to wear quickly, but i can't veryfy that yet.

I've now done 200+ miles on the Toyo T1R's, driven in the wet and dry and cant fault them at all....amazing grip, responsive and you can feel where the limit is when cornering hard.

 

Last night I was driving in the wet and lined up agianst some boy racer in a corsa red-top at brighton marina, needless to say my '6' with lsd and a 1.6 box shot of the line with no wheel spin when giving it all.....mostly due to the lsd though.

 

Best tyres I've had, tried avon's, P600's, yoko's (not the C-drive's though), Michelin energy's ........yet to try F1's but will next

Can't fault t1-r's for road use! Similar to above i found i got less wheelspin with them, but yet to try f1s, but would go out and buy t1-rs again quite happily without trying any others. Good price help aswell i think.

My 205 has now made friends with speedbumps and is just a nicer drive. would definatly recommend them for £130 delivered.

 

Really want to make the TOYO and T1-R white on the side walls though, good idea or should that be left to muscle cars?

i really rated A520s and A539s on mine - they might not grip as well as others but i thought they were quite entertaining for it and they stand up to track abuse very well

 

had a pair on the front of the Cup (with ContiSports on the back) and it did show up the difference in the two tyres - fairly impressive understeer on track (although the rear end of the Cup is seemingly unstickable compared with the 205). got ContiSports on the front again now and rate them, although i'm not sure if they're available in 195/50/15 and they're going to be a little more expensive than Yoko/Toyo

 

the tyre everyone raves about on the Clio is the Michelin PE2, but they're rediculously expensive compared with just about all of the others, even the premium brands
