Oil Advice And Recommendations Here

Hello !

 

Peugeot

205 GTI

1987

XU9JA D6B 1905ccm

 

Engine is modified and rebuilt last year - gas flowed head , compression ratio 11.1 (CR raised with different set of pistons) , 405 SRi gearbox etc.

Daily driver (road car)

Oil temp - average 110C , maxi 130C

 

Im interested in engine oil recommendation :P I've been using 10w-40 multigrade oil in the past (Total or Shell 10w-40)

A mineral oil or semi synthtic is going to struggle at those temps, look at a decent synthetic 5w-40 to cope with it all better.

Piper camswith, Head work, 45 Carbs, its been rebuilt and needs running in.

The 1.6 Be3 gearbox has also been rebuilt.

Used as a daily drive.

 

I need to know both Engine and Gearbox please.

To run in you will need a mineral based oil. 10w-40 semi synthetic is fine for this

Mark,

 

The Magantec is fine for normal road use but is really not up to the job of track work.

 

I would look at a 5w-40 synthetic, ideal for fast road and track.

Sorry,yes its chipped with a k&n induction kit.

406 sri turbo 8v XU10 engine.

10w-40 semi synthetic with regular changes is ideal, if you want to go better then look at 5w-40 synthetic.

 

Fuchs, Motul, Silkolene, Mobil all worth a good look http://www.opieoils.co.uk

No mods yet, but a inlet cam swap is inevitable.

 

Road, with occasional track use

 

Also, can you suggest a suitable gearbox oil?

10w-40 semi synthetic to run in, they are 100% mineral base so ideal for the job.

 

Once run in I would go with a good ester based 5w-40 synthetic for track use such as the Silkolene Pro S 5w-40.

Thanks for your earlier reply.

I'm guessing I need 5 litres of oil for a complete change ?

 

I didnt realise I had to buy engine oil AND transmission oil though...with my mini I just drained oil via the sump and then topped up through the rocker cover, and I assumed that swapped the oil for both the engine and the gearbox.

 

Could you shed some light on this...

Additional info,current oil used- 5w50 fully synthetic

 

 

Gearbox- standard 1.9 with tran-x diff

What would you recommend for my 205 Stage Rally car,fitted with a 1.9 mi16 engine. Its aprox 200bhp, running with mechanical followers and the usual head,cams etc. Car is fitted with a 19row oil cooler. Max engine revs 8500.

 

The car is used for tarmac stage rallies with stages over 20mins long on some events. I was using comma 15w50 semi synth and slick 50.....but just running the new engine in now so looking at upgraded options.

 

I was thinking something like Castrol Edge Sport 10w60 or Mobil 1 Motorspoer 15w50, maybe shell helix racing 10w60.....any opinions on Morris 10w50 competition oil?

 

Used the Castrol in the MG S2000 and Skoda WRC at work with good results but wondered what form your experience you'd recommend

5L for the engine will be fine, for the gearbox 75w-80

I would not use either, this is a far better choice quality and grade wise

Off topic but what would you recommend for a toyota 1.4 vvti to prevent the oild being burnt off. I have replaced the engine with a known good engine which does not burn. Do not want to have it happening again. Currently using manufacturer branded oil

Hi

 

With VVTi engines, burning some is normal, but some burn a lot. A 5w-30 is the standard grade for those, but if it does burn a drop (not always the sign of a worn engine, if I remember correctly, some VVTi engines burn oil due to the piston shape), a 5w-40 is the best option.
