Highest Whp Xu9j"x" Turbo ?

Hey Guys,

I am a friend of Power's from the island of Barbados.I have lurked this forum for over 3 years now and I have started up INA Engineering. We do alot of VW/Audi performance products and also deal very closely with California based firm 034efi (http://www.034efi.com) .

Here is just a little sample of the work we do over @ INA:

* Dry sump system for the VW Golf 9A/ABF engine

040.JPG

* 650whp no problem!

054.JPG

071.jpg

Now enough with the drooling :) ...what brings me to this post is I have a fetish for 405's (yes I know....I know) and I have a dire itch to build one again. The plan is to gut the car completely because we all know how much s*it French wiring is and I will start from the ground up.

My real question to those in here is what parts are available?I am a dealer and distributor for JE,Garrett & TiAL Products so getting the usual essentials will not be a problem.

I want to know what breaks and what are the remedys. What people have pushed these cars to do,what they have not and what this market (if any) needs.

let me know your thoughts,

Thanks,

Issam Abed

you should speak to Bally (if he's not your competition? :)) as he knows these engines inside-out ;).

Bally = Power :) (some forums are picky if you dont use the persons nick name)

Bally is my partner...not my competition.Just wanted to see what guys here are putting down and such...who is doing what and using what.

I don't know what you're gonna start with (and what the access is out there to Pug engines), but Alastair H has a T16 engine for sale and Batfink, either now or very shortly has a complete 405 touring car that he only needs the gearbox from and may sell on. That would give you some quality internals to base you engine on at least.

Just for your info.

Very nice pictures indeed. Zorst & turbo porn all in one thread whacky109.gif

I'd speak to Magic. He's currently working in Brisbane and lurking about on Aussiefrogs a bit. I think he'll talk you into a T16 however.

Also, have a read of this thread:

Very nice work being done over there and I did browse through this forum but these builds are "mediocre".In other words 350whp @ most as that looks like a 2871R.

I have contacted ARP for head studs and someone sent me this link:

http://www.dp-engineering.com/EN/products/...e_stainless.php

nice work over there but a bit pricey for a turbo manifold considering I make them @ 700US.Hmmm....

Any input?

I can attest to this guys credibility, trust worthyness, and the ability to get stuff built and manufactured and at good prices.

We need someone like him to push peugeot to the other level.

VW doing 650whp easy for small money.

He has access to spec clutches for peugeots in all stages very cheap.

Can anyone tell me the part # for this ARP head stud?

yes it's nice, too nice actually  but it doesn't have anything to do with this topic as it's not turbocharged :(.

anyway, i'm afraid Sam has dropped his hi-spec S16 engine build in favour of a VW engine, so what does that tell us... :D

:D

You bastard.

That picture really doesn't help me much selling my T16 engine and giving me ideas, with running LPG and being a 4 door car :( .

Sounds like a good project though

I don't wish to start an argument, OR wander off topic, but you said (rather derogatorily I might add) that 350wbhp - and the builds that people have slaved over and are very proud of I guess - was 'mediocre'. You 'kin what!!!!

I can respect your fascination and indeed ability to achieve massive figures, but I'm a confused at how on earth that sort of horsepower is in anyway useable in either a 405 or a 205?

A T16 rally car is not really a 205 anyway is it? It's a spaceframed, mid-engined, custom built monster, and only resembles a 205. Likewise a 405 TOCA monster is again a far cry from a 405. Too many bespoke parts is what I mean.

What on earth are you going to do with .....say 450whp? Or is that only 'fair to middling'?

Kind of my immediate reaction too Rich, but to be fair I doubt the comment was intended to court controversy :( If there's guys pushing XU engines much higher than 350whp, then that makes 350whp mediocre. Just a matter of perspective.

It's a different culture over here. That kind of power isn't effectively useable except for drag racing, so enthusiasts tend to stick to what old Pugs do best, which is dispatch with B roads in an enjoyable way. I don't think it's that nobody has the capability to push XU engines to the limits in the UK/Europe, they just don't choose to. They aren't really the sort of cars most people use for drag racing.

Loving the pictures posted thus far too :D

800bhp has been achieved but that was fitted to Will Gollops old T-16 Rallycross car. I dont think it was very reliable either..

Me and Paul Dickinson were probably going to end up at 500bhp odd eventually but we both changed plans, he bought a Seat touring car and I am now going to use a 1.8 20vT engine too. For the sake of the stronger gearbox and parts are just dirt cheap for them. We were both going to use the GT3076R (him .63 turbine and me .82) and the DP manifolds (they are the only people who make good manifolds for this engine really). i"m a bit sad I gave up the project but this way will result in a much more solid engine and it won't end up with the oil on my driveway!

Do you make manifolds like the ones in your first post for the 1.8 20vT? I was looking at a full race manifold but if yours is better?

My bad,still new @ this.

See the reason everyone is jumping to VW is because guys like me are making these machines really go.A friend of mine just blew a 10.8 on his Jetta without even trying.Full interior...

Problem is everyone sees Peugeot and cringes. The only company that comes to mind is

What on earth are you going to do with .....say 450whp? Or is that only 'fair to middling'?

FLY! :(

Was not meaning to start an argument at all mate.Just that I like 400whp.I searched and couldnt find anyone with 350whp (considering the biggest turbocharger I have seen...i.e. GT2871R can hardly support that on a 1.8T).

I am probably going to end up with a GT3076R just because I plan on having some fun. With the right combination of suspension, gearbox gear ratios ,gearbox build & tyre selection....400whp can be a very fun loving car.The beauty of these engines is Torque...lots of it.

I make whatever Full-Race makes for the VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda market.Full Race builds top quality products but your paying for it ($1300US vs $799US for me).The reason your paying that price is because the welds are robotic tig welded.Unfortunately ALLL manifolds WILL crack.Even full race's...it may take 3 years,it make take more but eventually the welds will crack.

The issue with the European cars (well RHD) cars is that many have asked me to build manifolds for them but I am afraid the turbo combinations + the fact that you have a brake booster right there really makes fabbing up a decnet manifold + downpipe difficult.I am even pretty sure that the full race manifold will not fit in a RHD configuration.I have seen some nice work from Jabbasport and such but again its expensive and it will be the same quality as mine (if they are CNC cutting the flanges like I do).

My car will hopefully have the pedal box inside the car so thats not an issue. I am using a 306 shell and not a golf shell also. I understand they will crack but thats the price you pay. What do you charge for a similar manifold to the full race?

Sam try Bill at Badger5 for his own developed race parts for your engine

I thought Bill's manifolds came from the US?

so your putting the 20v into the 306?Well thats interesting...

I charge 799us for the manifold.I dont do robotic tig welding because its 200,000+ for the machine.Maybe 1 day when demand exceeds supply.

Dunno I only take a casual interest in his parts as the engines dont interest me until I own one lol
