205 Gti-6

Recommended Posts

Hi

Since I've started driving my 205 GTi-6 hard, I've noticed that the rear cam cover and also the plastic cover that goes over the coil packs are fouling the master cylinder, both have previously been dressed back and there's about a half inch gap between the coil pack cover and the M/C, so I'm a little concerned as to why it's happening. Seems like quite a bit of movement to me, I might be wrong !!

I realise that I'm going to have to check the engine mounts, so was wondering how you tell if new ones are needed ? the ones on the car aren't that old only about 20-30,000 miles.

I've already got a couple of washers behind one of the top o/s buffers and I've got Group N mounts all round apart from the buffers which are standard.

Anyone got any suggestions what else I can try to stop the engine moving backwards and forwards so much without fitting Group N buffers, tried those once before, the vibration drove me :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:(

I believe you have to pack out the top mount where it bolts onto the engine by about 10mm to effectively lower the engine to stop this happening in 205's. Search function is offline but if you go through the pages looking for threads with gti6 in the title etc you should find some which will give more info on what I just mentioned

you will need to fit a shorter mount, i think the zx has them and i know baker bm was on about doing a shorter one

Can anyone confirm that the Citroen ZX top mount is shorter than a 205 one?

Thanks for the help with this, just been on to baker bm, he hasn't got anything made up at the mo, but will be doing one in the next couple of months.

Will wait for the search function to be up and running again to find out about packing out the mount.

So, can anyone actually confirm if the zx mount is shorter or not ? I was looking on line last night and there listed as fitting zx, 205, 309 and a couple of others, any more info would be great if possible.

I'll go to the scrappy tomorrow afternoon and see if there's any zx's, let you know if I manage to find out anything.

Thanks again

Dave

are we talking about the rubber mount or the metal arm bit?

i looked at a zx mount (metal arm bit didnt think about rubber bit at the time!) at a scrappy earlier for my gti-6 conversion it looked too long tho putting the engine further back and much lower. can anyone clear this up?

Trying to find out about the rubber mount bit, as you said, shame you didn't think about it at the time.

How far is the scrappy ? Is it close enough to go and have a look and clear this up for us :)

It would be good to measure both the 205 and ZX mounts to see exactly how much, if any difference. At the end of the day if the ZX mount is only 2mm smaller its better than nothing! :) I'm sure i remember Maxi talking about it being smaller somewhere on here but the search facility is wanked.

I also looked on the Euro car parts website and it appeared the ZX top mount is the same as the 205 one :) If I'm near any scrappies this weekend i will try and take a look.

not too far maybe ill grab it,the mount that is! ive already bought group n mounts for mine but if this makes the conversion easier and saves grinding the cam cover than i can ebay the left over mount. i try go over there again tommorrow.

it was a 1.4i zx. not sure if all the zx mounts will be the same?

if i get it ill measure it with a standard one and post results

So today at work I found someone who owns a ZX and got him to let me have a look at the mount in question, unfortunately eventhough my method of measuring was a bit rough, it seems to me that they are the same size, little difficult to try and measure it when it's attatched to the car, so hopefully I stand to be corrected.

Was having a look around the GMC motorsport site earlier and they do a kit for the AX or MK1 106 and eventhough the pic doesn't show the full mount it looks very similar, anyone know anything about wether this might be an option or not.

As you said Edp any reduction in size would be a bonus, so I'm looking at anything that might possibly fit, I really don't want to use the Group N buffers.

If All Praise The GTI manages to get the mount maybe he'll be able to prove me wrong about the sizes, hopefully.

I guess the mount will look identical but will be that much shorter?

I could only measure it roughly, but it did seem the same size, hopefully like I said I'll get proved wrong soon.

If you want a lower top mount, and stew isn't doing them yet, it may be worth getting in touch with magic (t16cti magic). He made me a lower top mount, and it gave about 10 - 15mm clearance from the master cylinder...

I think he has someone here who makes them, and it only cost $50. It is solid so there are more vibrations, but it gave heaps of space. I've only got his phone number, but you could try pming him through here.

Yeah that looks smart gti_al, unfortunately I can't find any contact details for T16cti magic, not really into trying to shorten my own Spiky, would prefer someone to make it for me as I normally end up causing myself all sorts of grief :)

Looks like I might have to stop using it until I can find something to fit  don't really want to end up knackering either the M/C or the cam cover.

i finally made it to a scrappy today and got a mount out of a zx volcanoe-dturbo. upon inspection it looks the same as the stock gti one maybe just a coulple of mm shorter. not actually sure it would fitt tho as the base is much bigger. it has a larger metal bit.

does anyone know what zx mount is shorter if it is?

Thanks for that gti_al will pm him when I'm a bit more awake and see what he says.

All Praise, thanks as well for trying, sorry to hear it wasn't a succesfull trip.

I'm going to go to the scrappy Thursday and pick up an old mount and try someone near where I work and see if they think they can make any, let you know if I have any luck or not.

Ok. I have 3 mounts left, but they are for the Australian locals ..

This is the lowed engine mount, now in black ..

1194352209.jpg

With this engine mount the engine can be lowered by –20 mm. You don’t need to weld the exhaust manifold for gti6 and s16, also the timing belt cover doesn’t hit the master cylinder any more.

For the gearbox I use the this mount:

1194352646.jpg

the engine stays at the same level ..

For my ms16 engine, I made a solid lower engine mount with a offset hole. with a tube in it

For the lower engine mount,i use a softer nylon then the top engine mount.

So when I get 10 buyers I will made a new set..

The engine mount will be 80$

Gearbox mount 120$

Lower engine mount 120$

Rear beam solid bushes kit will be 150 $

all in a perfect quality, the rear beam bushes have also a tube in it.

Best regards Magic
