What Should I Do With My Xs?

Recommended Posts

macaroni

My much-loved xs is currently languishing in a friends garage.

I had to hide it away somewhere when I was given a 306xsi and really couldn't have 4 cars on the drive.

Current cars are:

Matra, can only do 6000 miles/year.

306 - lovely car and the only other one my wife can drive, so should really stay.

FIAT Multipla - wifes.

205 xs, my toy, currently off the road.

So, should I...

1) put the Matra away when I've done 6000 miles and use the 205 instead as a plaything?

2) sell it?

3) strip it and sell the upgraded bits, then scrap it?

I've put so much time and effort into the car I'd hate to scrap it, ditto selling it but it would be good if it went to someone who could use it.

Currently 1) is favourite.

Any ideas?

multipla is probably for children no doubt?

box up the matra and whip the 205 on the drive for weekends.....option A is by far the most sensible.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I can't sell the Multipla as it is the "family" car.

So apart from that, you've suggested keeping it, selling or breaking it, which is exactly my dilemma.

Maybe I should have made it a poll!

I know if I drive it I will fall in love with it again, so maybe I should just sell it from where it is.

Thing is, if I did, it would be the first time in 16 years I'll have been without a 205 - I just can't do it. AARRGGHH!

Better idea...sell the wife!

You obviously don't want to get rid of it otherwise you wouldn't have asked on here, and i always see people saying that they regretted getting rid, which is what i think you will do, if you sell up!

Keep it and get rid of the 306, if your wife will let you! She already has one and who needs more than one?! jeez! thats just greedy!

She is keen to keep that because it is something she can drive when she doesn't need the 6 seats of the Multi or when it is in for repair.

The 205 is too hardcore for her and the Matra is LHD and far too precious.

I really should get rid, but just can't bring myself too.

I'll sleep on it, thanks for all your advice in this troubling time.

Calvin,

it's a bit like that, but with less bushy hair.

Jrod,

she doesn't have 2 cars, but as the 306 is the first car I've had in ages that she can drive too, she is keen for me to keep it.

After much thought, I think it is going to have to go... :(

I shall retrieve it from it's garage, tax it and get a years MOT on it and see what I can get for it.

I need to fund the Spax dampers kit I want for the Matra...

Keep it you muppet! You'll only be hankering after it again once it has gone and even if you bought another it wouldn't be the same. You've spent so much time and effort on it you'd be crazy to sell it.

Come on guys!! This is hard enough for me as it is. Do you expect me to have it on my drive while I butcher it?

I would prefer to sell it as a whole really because it is a good car.

Failing that, the big things on it I could break are:

Good head + fast road Catam

Weber 38DGAS + box full of jets

H&H recurved dizzy

CSC 4-2-1 manifold + CSC centre silencer + CSC backbox

e-tech alloy strut brace

306 dt front calipers + braided brake lines

Jamex front struts with Gmax springs, Gmax rear shocks

Mountney steering wheel

Right, I'm off for a cry!

For the whole car, as is, £350, with 6 months tax and a years MOT, £500.

If it gets broken, I'll bear you in mind Casanova. The clutch is very recent too.

What's the camshaft? If its somewhere below a 285 I'd probably take that off your hands if you break ;)

I'd love to buy it whole but I'd be killed If I had 3 cars here (again ;))

What backbox is it running?

If you do break I will have a fair bit. (personally I think you'd get more for it breaking but then I would say that as I want bits :()

Say you sold the engine for 150-200

exhaust manifold 100

You've basically got your asking price and then have loads left to sell.
