My brother's old 309 is still sitting on his drive waiting to be scrapped, if anyone wants to build an even sheddier monster...

309s are easily my favourite Peugeot, I can barely believe I don't have one of the bloody things.

You know what to do Rob :)

We tried to get some more video last night, but it was quite wet and dark, which robbed them of the drama tbh. Maybe have another go at the weekend if it's dry.

I've got 309GTi hubs at the moment, but the bearings are shot. I'm switching to Xsara hollow cast uprights, I had one already and have ordered the other side. The shafts are Accord inner ends sleeved and rosette welded into 307 tublar outer ends. Should take the abuse ok.

Looks and sounds brilliant. You should be very pleased. Excellent work.

What are the differences between the 309 gti hubs and the Xsara ones?

I guess as the xsara ones are hollow, they are lighter.

LoL, some get it, some don't similar response on the ATR owners club. Some of them reckon it'll twist the shell due the torque :(

Thanks, the Xsara hubs weigh about the same but are probably stiffer due to the tubular-ish design. Bigger engine 306s have them too. I ran them on my previous 309s and they do feel positive. Probably all in my head.

Ok, here's Neil having a drive and being a bit suprised with the grunt, followed by a 2nd gear launch in the wet (from outside). Not brilliant, but it'll do for now:

Sleeper if ever i saw one!

If anyone gets bored and wants to build a new conversion, come and put an SR20 engine into my 205. I've got one along with full running gear, in a written off car, sat in the driveway waiting to go into my Almera, but I'm thinking it might be more fun in my 205 :).

Welcome to the forum fellow NE Scotlander! You can't be far from pugnut (Alan) whose just off the Oyne fork :)

Amen to that, I'm just back from a week not too far from Stirling, OK i had my mum's A4 avant 130bhp TDi but the Duke's Pass was still superb fun.

In fact, as an awesome, couldn't beat it run, I'd start at Aberfoyle, do the Dukes pass, through the Sma' Glen, up to Perth, over Glenshee, towards Aboyne, over Glen Gairn to Cockbridge, over the Lecht to Grantown on Spey and then cross the Dava with a night in Inverness before doing some of the FAR north roads.

Thats the route of dreams gents, route of dreams!

Anytime anyone's coming u North during the summer let me know, I need an excuse to do that trip... The hills are alive to the sound of bodies and S/C whine B)B):D

Sounds good, we had our honeymoon in Callender (sp?), the roads around there were great fun. Neatest stunt i've pulled on my wife yet.

quote of the year :)

Peugeot chassis, honda engine, all it need is an Alfa body and an Audi interior all screwed together by Japanese blokes and it'd be close to perfect!

Question:

If those that obviously know cars agree with this magnificent quote:

Peugeot chassis, honda engine, all it need is an Alfa body and an Audi interior all screwed together by Japanese blokes and it'd be close to perfect!

Then why oh why doesn't somebody (read: company) get their act together and do it? Surely they'd clean up the market for selling performance cars? <DUcks.....>

Peugeot chassis' aren't what they used to be

Honda are to busy focusing on being all environmental, plus emissions regs will slowly kill off decent engines in years to come

Alfa don't make beautiful cars anymore unless the design is farmed out to one of the other design houses

Dunno what to say about Audi interiors except that they can be a bit dull

And not all Jap cars are screwed together brilliantly.

It's a great analagy but not really befitting of our current standards.
