Me too Ziga, the two dead LEDs in the lower part of the gauge don't fill me with hope either. They do work sometimes though :blush:

 

that doesn't sound right at all mate! not tried mine yet :(

That doesn't sound promising at all. :(

 

Is there someone close to You, who has one to borrow? I mean, You can fumble in darkness and go nuts, and at the end of the day You'll realise it was all down to the stupid gauge.

Yeah, both mine and Stu's are at his house so we've been trying the same things on both gauges with completely different results.

Back on topic, we tried changing the VOut config thing from it's seemingly default value of '1' to '153' and various other settings up to 255 and it made no difference to the VOut.

 

The only thing we managed to get to change the VOut was telling it to output the EGT instead of the AFR and that worked fine.

 

Also, regardless of the setting, my gauge gives no output :)

 

Excuse my ignorance , but where do you access the Vout config , I'm going to start wiring mine up tomorrow night when my gauge pod arrives.

 

It appears that we could do with a basic guide for installation once one of us has got it up and running

i've asked VEMS to take a look at this topic and especially address to M3Evo's issue.

 

here's their reply:

 

It's important to write details of what he tried.

Eg. did he supply power ? Measure supply voltage ?

Tried communication via serial port ?

Does the serial port otherwise work / tested ?

 

It is extremely unlikely that it's a faulty gauge

since it's thoroughly tested. However, it is possible,

that stupid brainless customs officer turns up X-ray to

f***ing-high power, which could theoretically

change a bit in the flash, and it might happen sometimes.

Maybe he could verify flash but it was mismatch ?

Yes. Worked for many, in several modes (NBO2 / WBO2).

If he cannot, he should consider details about the

voltage(lambda) function he needs,

So his question can be answered.

 

Otherwise I can only point to

where the NBO2 and linear WBO2 is documented,

in MegaTune he needs to configure

Settings, Inputs and Outputs, Analog output

0x33 = 51

0x66 = 102

0x99 = 153 (3V / lambda)

 

Again, the voltage(lambda) function he needs

is ESSENTIAL, because if the function he needs is

strange/not supported in current firmware,

that needs firmware mod.

Finally got round to wiring up the vems system last night ,

 

got the gauge to read 20:1 in air/fuel , but only 0.05V on the output.

 

Breathing on the sensor indicated a change to 16/1 ( must have been the whisky) but very little change in the output voltage up to 0.06

 

Has anyone made any significant progress?

Not had a chance, but I'm getting not too dissimilar results from the Voltage output pins in the plug.

 

Glad it's not just me! Did make good use of the gauge the other day though in setting my idle fueling from an eye watering 11:1 at idle ;) to a more emissions test friendly 14.7:1, it passed an' all! B)

I made at little progress over the weekend.

 

I finally got the Megatune to display what i was seeing on the gauge. But only the 02 %

 

The USB cable that came with the unit was not making the connection , so i changed it for the one i had with my emerald , and made a connecting to Com 3.

 

I still get the message at the bottom of the Megatune display says that the sensor is not connected though , which i don't understand.

 

Also changing the setting in megatune , i did mange to see 5V on the voltmeter , but don't really know why yet .

 

In one of the read me files , there is a statement

 

*

config.disp_state can be incremented with the button. Therefore the lambda / AFR changes every time.

(if the WBO2 display is inactive --- because sensor not present or not powered, it seems like every 2nd keypress takes effect).

 

 

I am seeing this effect , when the gauge display only moves on the second press of the button . not sure whats happening here , but will take another look tonight

It tells me mine isn't connected too, yet it clearly is as I get the o2% reading as well. I also know I can communicate both ways with the sensor as I can program the brightness of the LEDs.

 

I can also get the voltmeter to say 5V, but only by telling it to output the egt readings.

 

I'm wary of fiddling with the firmware in case I break it. :rolleyes:

Finally Cracked it last night .

 

Set the inputs and outputs

 

Egt calibration 153

EGT offset 192

Analogue output 153

 

In the communications settings

 

Com 9

Serial Data rate 19200

 

Press the click to test button and the message changes form untested to success

 

Then in the firmware file

 

Edit the write Batch file to Com 9 and S 19200

Edit the verify file to Com 9 and S 19200

 

Run the roundloader application.

 

Fire the engine up , and i had readings on the AFR 0f 13.42 at tick over Lambda 0.91 2.73 out put volts .

 

The emerald ecu picked the signal up and displayed it on the live events screen.

 

I believe that previously the inputs for AFR and Lambda were outside the maximums of the controller and so were showing full scale deflection .

 

This worked for me :(

Ive copied your settings just incase I lose this post, im yet to take my vems kit out the carrier bag yet as i still need to build a engine.

 

Hows it look when logged with the emerald? does it look easy enough to find the exact point the cars running lean/rich?

You'll not see anything until you fasten it to the engine and start it up . No voltage out put as the the Lambda and AFR are off the scale. Also the gauge display starts to work as well showing Lambda values when they are within the scope of the settings. IE it shows O2 until the engine fires up , and then it will flick between AFR and Lambda when the button is pressed

 

Have a look at the dials on the megatune and see what reading they are showing for lambda and AFR

 

IIRC AFR 80:1 was what i saw

sorry to bring this back up but it's better than starting a new topic.

 

we have installed our VEMS WBO2+EGT system last week - totally plug'n'play

and we got 14.7 AFR and 408'C on idle :D. i'm yet to drive with it and see

what sort of figures it returns.

 

 

now onto the output bit - how do i take the wideband lambda output for use

with MegaSquirt ECU - do i simply need to open up the main 15 pin connector

and add a couple of wires connected to pin 1 and pin9:

or maybe it's better to "steal" the signal directly from the existing wires at the

other side of the connector?

 

 

also, what kind of output is best suited to MS? MegaTune gives an option of

LC-1 type input which is 0v=10:1 to 5v=20:1 AFR, or something like that.

 

i guess that's the same as craigb's suggestions of vout_conf=0x99 (153)

which gives 3v lambda? or not?:D

 

 

and finally, is VEMS gauge able to take negative side of coil as a trigger for

RPM input and, if not, how do i "steal" the signal from the standard pug VR

sensor that's already in use by Motronic?

We wired up the plug of the connector as you say, then earthed the earth bit at the ECU earth, connecting the signal wire to the relevant input.

 

Pretty sure we used 3v=Lambda.

 

No idea about the coil trigger though :D

that's actually not what i'll have to use, but i think i've figured it out :angry:.

 

 

first of all, they've released a new firmware recently:

and secondly, "(vout_conf) = 5" gives lambda0.68-1.36 (0-5V) output

which relates to 10-20 AFR 0-5V, which is exactly what i need (as that's

the same output LC-1 gives and MS1 is ready to take ;).

 

 

i've set up MegaTune both for MS1 and VEMS, just need to connect it

to the ECU and WBO2 gauge and see if it all work ok :) but i am

seriously starting to like all this "open source" architecture :(.
