Tachymetric relay .... which?!

Recommended Posts

lagonda

I'm looking at buying a new tachy / fuel pump relay for my 1989 1.6 CTi.

It seems that, here in France anyway, I mainly have a choice of buying one made by Meat & Doria. OK, that's it, actually. All the others listed are helpfully "unavailable/out of stock".

Their part number 1452 05 seems right, but I have also seen M & D 422011 and M & D 282628. Some suppliers state some of these aren't suitable for my CTi, and I think 282628 is a spurious number!

Are these relays reliable / good enough quality, and which (both?!) numbers are correct for my car?

I don't know where you saw the other number, doesnt return any search results.

According to their website it's  M&D 42201, the other one doesn't exist.

There is also the ERA 661136 around, you need to look for anything that can replace the Bosch part number 0 280 230 006.

You could also try to repair the old relay, it's often just capacitors to change and/or solder joints to reflow.

Hi Mei and Baptiste

Thanks, that neatly resolves that. The 282628 number was on the Unedesauvee site, which specialises in parts for these cars. Like you, I couldn't find any other site with that, excepting what is undoubtedly a scam site, which has copied Unedesauvee's ad.

Interesting ... I searched M & D's site but could find no reference to these relays at all! Yes, I've tried searching under that Bosch number ... so many blind alleys! So annoying people listing parts, only to find unavailable/out of stock. I'll check out that ERA reference.

Still need to know ... can anyone comment on how good/bad M & D relays are?!

Hi Baptiste,

Many thanks for your trouble, much appreciated!

Hopefully someone will come along and say if either of these are good/bad!

Autodoc has the M&D relay in stock, £36 is reasonable for these ones.

Hey, check out MEAT & DORIA Fuel pump relay in the AUTODOC app https://m.autodoc.co.uk/meat-doria/7766998

they also have the ERA item, search on there under the Peugeot number 145205 will bring them all up,   as well as the bosch, hitachi and a few others but no stock.

I'm also having trouble finding a pump relay.

(I don't know how I missed this topic, probably can't spell Tacheymetric correctly to search for it LOL)

My post:-

Fuel Pump Relay - Availability ? (New 2026) - XU 8v Engine Maintenance and Performance Upgrades - 205GTIDrivers.com

I'm having an hard time finding the Pump relay in the parts catalogue Peugeot Parts Catalogue .

Googling got Peugeot part number 6555.22. Is this correct? (Mines a 1988 1.6 CTI. Phase 1.5) you're mentioning 1452 05??

If that is the M&D part number 422011 and its an equivalent, then there's loads available on ebay for about £45 -£55.

There's a couple of sellers specifically selling Peugeot 205 pump relays that look identical but they are purposely hiding the MFPN, possibly just to mark up the price?

Youngtimers also sell them, but with tax and shipping It's not so cheap, but I am considering it . Peugeot 205 GTI/ CTI & 309 GTI Fuel Pump Tachometer Relay - gb

Want to get round to ordering (imminent trip planned to UK ... if anyone knows of anyone with a spare seat travelling near Poitiers and returning to the UK Friday to early next week, I' m happy to share expenses!) but so much else going on.

The original ? relay was a Cartier 02 474. That failed because of dry solder joints, which once resoldered, had it working fine ... but not before I bought a replacement, probably from GSF, and that is a Hella 4RP 008 189-111. Some sellers state that that is incorrect for my 1989 CTi 1.6, but it works fine. Bit old now hence seeking a replacement.

You better know what you're looking for and even then it's tricky. Part number is 1452.05 so starting with 1 it should be in group 1 "ENGINE EQUIPMENT"... but it's not. Maybe it was on another car parts catalog but on the 205 catalog it ended up in group 6:

https://www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/205F/6/65Q01A.HTM

https://www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/205N/6/65Q01A.HTM

"RELAY" what kind of relay? Who knows. It's a bit better for the 309 catalog:

https://www.miamistu.co.uk/pug/GB/309F/6/65Q01A.HTM

But what about the drawing? Well it's the previous kind of tach relay (1452.10) with another form factor and connector, even better on the 309 catalog because on this car it was never used.

Cartier certainly seems to have been the most widelyused  original supplier,  I have seen bosch, hella replacements have worked ok.

specifically though I've found wiring faults from immobilisers and original looms coming apart than failed relays,   not saying they dont however,  an old fuel pump drawing lots of powrr can cook a relay.

I replaced the fuel pump last year. Despite that, this relay still gets hot, nearly too hot to hold ... is that normal?

Indeed my car did have alarm and/or immobiliser fitted, but removed before I bought the car.

I'm looking for a replacement as a spare. I'm currently using my only spare at the minute as my fitted one caused me to break down in an awkward spot. On a hill between a central island causing a traffic jam.

Good job I had the spare in the glove box as I frantically swapped it out in front of a pub of onlookers. I got a cheer when I got it moving again.

It looks like I can repair the faulty one.

He seems to be selling them slightly cheaper on ebay than his own website!

I'd pay £50 for one.

The Peugeot parts number must be 6555.22 for the Relay. (Phase 1.5 & 2)

I only found this from a couple of online sellers listing that number Peugeot 205/309 GTI Tachometric/Fuel Relay | BorderPeugeotSpares

Peugeot 205 GTI/ CTI & 309 GTI Fuel Pump Tachometer Relay - gb

It's no where to be found on miamstu Parts catalogue.

1452.05 might be the Phase 1 relay?

edit:

So some digging. the 1452.05 (or 145205 part is the original Part number that was later superseded by 6555.22  but ultimately the same part.

This listing for the M&D 422011 relay cross references to Peugeot 145205

Für MEAT&DORIA 422011 RELAY | eBay

These seem commonly available on ebay from £46.

My assumption is its the same relay Border Spares and Youngtimers are selling.

interesting,  655522 brings up a few on autodoc however zero stock.

M&D 422020,  Mahle MR 113, Hella 4RP 008 189-11

quite a large cross reference list to other manufacturers,  mostly italian!  a few German applications thrown in, I think at the time they were using K jet and soon made the jump straight to motronic.

m&d 422020 is out of stock. I wonder how it differs from the 422011?

Back in the days from the factory they where fitting either Bosch or Cartier and likely later Valeo too .. hence different part No's i guess .

Only very early Ph1 1.6 GTI had different fuel pump relay .

Id say there's bugger all difference in these 7pin relays .. and if the pin layout is the same so it fits the socket it'll work .

Maybe some minor difference like priming with the key ON and lower/higher rpm. treshold for the fuel cut off but not much id say as most od them are around 500-600rpm

As said previously , i have up and running Opel/Vauxhall relay for more than decade only difference is few seconds prime with the key ON before starting , which is good actually.

Certainly !

That's an easy one , and common issue .

Just heat up and add some more solder and will be good .

Check if there's cracked diodes , and that the wire from the relay coil to the terminal isnt split .

1452.05 was the part number in 2012. What is suspicious about 6555.22 is that it's not a newer part number, it should be from the 604-505 era :

groupe6_65P40.jpg604%20groupe6_65R01.jpg

I can't find a Peugeot document but 6555.22 looks to be used on the early 505 turbo US model with the Bosch part number 0 280 230 009.

As for finding cheap and available relays as long as you don't mind changing the connector or creating a short adapter loom they are plenty of Volvo, Mercedes or VW fuel pump relays around.
