Puncture Repair - Strange?

Repaired one of the tyres on my CTi with one of these kits (the folded strip inserted into the tyre from outside) two or three years ago. No problem whatsoever. Kit contained no instructions so checked out youtube. That did the job, but the guy demonstrating overlooked coating the strip with rubber cement before insertion. That explained why he struggled to get the thing in the tyre! The rubber cement primarily of course bonds and seals....but also acts as a lubricant during insertion. Don't really understand the concern. Consider the mechanics of the fitment. Remember however that it relies on the puncture being a very small incision. A larger hole/gash....then such a repair could be foolhardy.

There was no rubber cement put on mine.

 

Anyway, I met the local guy I usually use when I was out with the dog this morn.

 

Told him what they had done and he shook his head. He say's his garage only use they types of repairs on farmers quads etc, and he'd have used a patch.

 

He's out of plugs (as per WP's pic) but will order a box today, and he'll repair the repair for me.

 

Good mind to go down and demand a new tyre from the first Cnut, but he looked quite hardy! ????
