Plasticare Trim Dye

Recommended Posts

m_john_m

Sorry if this has been posted over and over and over again but.....

My plastics are in need of livening up.

I'm not sure wether to keep it original with grey or go with black? I'm planning on keeping the car standard as I have my focus st to modify. If I dye them black can I in the future dye them grey?

Do most people dye the trims black?

How is it applied? With a sponge or a brush?

Thanks

John

I put my black dye on 2 + years ago. It's still black.

Once you put on black it will stay black.

Apply with a sponge.

Divided opinion already!... I apply with a small paint brush.

Grey covers black easily. I prefer the use of a sponge cube over a cloth or brush.

I just tried it over the weekend and found applying it with a sponge worked perfectly.

As for black or grey...it's entirely up to you. I went for grey because that's the original colour and I think it looks best on a black 205. All down to opinion though.

Thanks for all your input.

I'm still undecided.

Anyone got pics of trim dyed black or grey? I want to make it one of my jobs for this weekend.

I would buy the Peugeot grey they used to spray white petrol cap badges, it's a spot on match and better than Plasticare part number 9860 71 about a tenner for 400ml.

The GTI petrol cap badge 8660 77, used to sometimes come in white from Peugeot.

They used this grey paint to match it up.

I'm working on a 16 year old Corsa at the moment.

The trim is well and truly faded.

I'll let it dry and put anothet coat on if required.

A little tip. Don't hold the bottle as you apply. You will lean ovet and tip some out.

I just did. ;)

Yes, but Justin, you only needed the superior control as you were too lazy to remove your trim :P

I've always used sponge and never felt the need to try another method. Worked perfectly well for me. Last used it on my Volvo back in Oct and used detailing masking tape around everything as I went, although you can wipe it off panels if you are quick. Little bit of cloth and some IPA to wipe as you go works fine. And to echo what iPlod said, be careful with the bottle, I've knocked one over before with the lid off. It's not a pretty sight.

too lazy, take that back!! i'm too ham fisted thats why!

Brushes have more edge control, i didn't need to mask above and below, just over the red.

Because it's a black 205 :P You wouldn't have been so lucky on another colour ;)
