Blimey! They've diversified since Peepshow!

205 looks cooler than a Polar Bear's bawsack. Very jealous :)

Whoops, meant Mitchell & King wax! Silly me! Too much Peepshow!

Looks great. Any idea what was used on the glass?

Not sure on glass sorry.

Not a daily driver for me, my daily is a Golf R32.

GTi still lives outside though unforunately. Use it every weekend and a few evenings.

P.S. You HAVE TO get a new PEUGEOT rear badge now :).

Have to say I am super impressed with that. I paid to have my old XS detailed first time I'd done that and it was well worth it, something I'm going to do for the good wood I think.

One for the experts, how often would you recommend a full one day detail to happen, annually with washing and waxing in between?

Also what is a 2 buckets wash!?

Also what is a 2 buckets wash!?

Basically you have one bucket with soapy water, and a second bucket just with water. You wash the car from the soapy bucket as you usually would, but before putting the sponge back into the sooapy bucket you dip it in the water bucket to rinse it so that any crud from the car comes off rather than staying on the sponge and scratching the car/creating swirl marks.

A sponge?

Wash your mouth out with soap. ;)

Quick video of the method.

Following a 2B wash your buckets will look like this.

If you only use 1 bucket all the dirt on the left will give you swirl marks.

Wait till we get some sunshine again and you will see them. Edited by iPlod999

Yep new rear Peugeot badge is here, fitting tomorow once it stops bloddy raining.

How often to have a detail depends in how fussy you are really, I tend to go for once a year.

Updated shot, done a load of little jobs this weekend, coming along nicely. In this pic the 205 is framed by my daily (Golf R32) and my girlfriends daily (Rover Mini Cooper).

Once done to a decent standard, you shouldnt need to do anything for quote some time other than cleaning, a good layer of protection goes a long way so theres no need to polish often, just top up the wax.

Very true, as long as you're careful when washing and use the 2 bucket method etc. My Golf hasn't needed polishing since I had it done a year ago, I top up the wax every 6 months (depending on what wax I use) and that's about it.

Oh man, I've always liked Steel Grey, but it's now rapidly growing on me!

What's going on with the tail light? Looks like some water found its way in there?

Your car looks great, just shows what a good level of regular care and attention reaps.

I'm a sucker for a Steel grey!

Yeah, I gotta have a look at that. Might be a little water, will take it off and reseal.

I've only actually had the car two or three weeks, plan to keep it forever so figured I would get it as tidy as I can then look after it well! :)

Just an update, had lots of work done to the GTI over the last couple of weeks!

Had done:

Paintwork detailed/restored inc trim

Interior deep clean

Resitched drivers seat

New 205 GTI branded mats and boot liner

New headlights, indicators and driving lamps

New Clutch

New engine mounts and gearbox mounts

New exhaust

New front tyres & new Alloy wheels x 4

Oil & Filter

Plugs & HT Leads

Sorted lots of little rainwater leaks

Cleared all drain holes

Replaced rear quarter o/s window due to a big deep scratch

Sealed both rear windows to stop leaks

Replaced rear wiper & washer jet

Replaced dash trim

Replaced rear Peugeot badge & 205 badge

Replaced LCD clock

Took out old stereo ready to fit new one

Replaced clutch and brake pedal rubbers

Fitted genuine front mud flaps

Fitted boot trim panel & fasteners

Fitted parcel shelf toggles

Replaced 1/4 rear window nuts as mine were faded

Touched up some bits of paintwork

Sprayed front wipers matt black (old ones were chipped)

Replaced door pins

Today:

New standard backbox (bye bye Magnex), had idle tweaked by ignition advance adjustment etc. Fitted period-correct Peter Durrant dealer plates, rear window sticker and tax disc holder. Tweaked driving lamps so they sit correctly on the brackets.

Left to do:

To do this weekend:

New rear light o/s as mine has condensation.

Replace GTI badge on rear 1/4 as one has faded, replace one 1.9 badge as it's dimpled.

Fit original Clarion radio cassette as bought from Anthony from here.

Replace couple of bits of plastics by the back seats to replace due to discolouration.

Then plan to:

Paint brake calipers red.

Raise rear beam a tad.

Replace all seats with a refurbished set.

Couple of dent repairs and tend to a little bit of lacquer peel.

Then I'm all done, and I don't think there's realistically anything left for me to do, all niggles etc sorted...for the moment anyway!! :)

please don't paint callipers red! I quite like a gold colour / dark silver, but red looks stupid!

I dunno, I saw a photo of a black 1.9 with red calipers and thought it looked smart!
