The final stage of removal is in progress as we speak. This was the car as of last week being taken away. Thursday I will have the car back fully naked. I will have lots of pictures of its little adventure through the dipping stages and will upload them as soon as I get the car.

lets hope it leaks like a sieve like most pugs! not heard great tales of dipping, though as usual you only hear about the problems.

The car is dipped in the acid, but then is dipped in a chemical to neutralise.. Where the acid goes so does the other chemicals. Its then further immersed in a rust inhibitor. They drill all the rollcage to allow the liquids to flow. As long as the shell is properly prepped afterwards theres not really going to be an issue in theory. I guess that it will not get where panels are pressed together but I dont think that will be a major issue on this car.

I just then need to do a proper job to protect any box sections where the paint might not get when sprayed.

Wrong car came back from the acid dipping lol

Not looking forward to the welding on this one. The Quattro needs a jig built so we can shorten the chassis by 330mm. Currently this can be driven Fred flintstone style. Significantly lighter with no paint and underseal

mmmm short wheel base quattro very lush. No matter hot much you mod a long wheel base it just doesnt look rite. Where is the length coming out from? i.e. will you have to shorten the doors aswell?

Coolio :) are you swapping the screen pillars/screen too or just shortening?

The length comes out between the b and c pillars but as Al points out the proper swb Factory cars also used a more upright windscreen frame from an Audi 80.

Apparently this one will be getting the later bodykit with the full aero. I prefer the version in the link though!

I paid £900 roughly for a door to door service. Not cheap by any means. I looked at aqua blasting as well but this was not cheap enough for me to want to get that done instead. I didnt want sand blasting as I knew there would be lots of prepwork needed on the bare shell.

What did that seam look like on the other side? I've found some horrors there on 205s in recent times but yours looks really good.

Jackherer..

Its all pretty good. Most of the time its the sealer just cracking rather than anything massively wrong. What have you seen!

I used to think it was just cracks in the sealer but Maturin23 found this on his car:

post-3-0-68584700-1375982722_thumb.jpg

I took it to my bodyshop and they asked if I could get a repair section, I went round a few places that were breaking 205s and tried cutting that bit out. After I cut up six or seven, some of which looked fine on the outside, and they were all going from the inside out I gave up. They made up a new part in the end, and did it in one piece, he put the seam in with a bead roller so it looks factory but there is no gap so there should not be any cracking or water getting in.

This is what came out:

When you look there are a lot of 205s with problems setting in above one or both rear quarters, I'm in the market for a trackday 205 at the moment and I walked away from one because it looked just like Ian's one.

I guess it looks like if water gets in behind it causes havoc!

not much of an update. Engine is sitting in the bay but modifications to the subframe are needed to sit the engine in the right place. I will get cutting at the weekend.
