The GTI uses a different centre tube with a thicker centre section where the retaining strap fits but otherwise a base model beam tube with GTI trailing arms & torsion bars etc will be the same.

Just bumping this....

Has anyone tried 306 arms on a 309 tube? Is it just too wide?

Would I be able to mitigate the situation by fitting new 205/309 bearings - would this take things back to standard 309 width?

Cheers,

Adam.

i run 306 gti arms on a 309 tube, as with the nature of it you have to expect the occasional arch scrub now and then. someone will give the exact specs but gti6 arms give neg camber and toe.

But it's basically OK? I've had a couple of scrubs when heavily weighed down but it's not too bad...Hmmmm.

Would also look totally mean, which would be sweet.

I'm planning on running 306 trailing arms with 205 stub axles / hubs on a 309 beam.

Am I right thinking it'll be the same track width (or thereabouts) as the 309 beam but with a bit of negative camber?

im sure the 309 arms give 9mm each side, and the 309 beam tube is 22mm, so youd end up with +40mm track width or so. (might be wrong on this though)

And using 306 hubs and stub axles gives more width I believe

I should add I meant the 309 tube!

That's a 205 GTi with a 309 beam and ZX arms, so the 306 arms will look very similar (just geometry differences between them)

It will scrub the inner lip on the plastic arch for a while until it rubs it away, but then a standard 309 beam will do that. The metal part of the arches should be fine assuming that you've still got the bump stops present and correct.

You can't fit these 306 arms when using 7j(406 v6 Coupe 16 inch) wheels can you?

hubs, not arms.

you can use any arm that fits, but its the hub that makes the difference.

is that on a 309 beam though or a 205 beam?

Mine is a 205 beam with 7j wheels which gives it the appearance of being on a 309 beam. It is nice to know it is possible.

you can get 8j on, but forget about wheel travel!

As above. Make sure you undo and remove the small bracket for the abs sensor wiring as it will foul the body on a 205. I usually chop the cast lug off as well as its no use to you on a 205.

Oops, just read this, mines been running with 306 arms on a 309 tube and realised I didn't cut them lugs off. Only was on the road for a year, bent the metal on the body abit where it's Fowled. No real bad damage. Maybe on a 205 tube maybe been worse? I will try and cut them off with the beam in place. Any ideas?

Just stumbled upon this which is good news really as i was under the impression my base model beam would be useless. Once i get my shed built and get some things out of the garage ill get it up and off to have a proper look at it, from memory it seemed very rusty and will probably need rebuilt.

Sorry, dragging up an old thread. Does using 306 disc arms add 9mm per side or 9mm total?

Just don't do it. Too much toe-in for my liking.

I thought it was just width and camber, didnt know it had toe changes as well
