Whos Running Gti6 Turbos ?

Recommended Posts

cybernck

Eric is using S16 engine though, isn't he?

And if you use S16, you can fit T16 pistons with 8:1 c/r :).

if the T16 pistons go into a S16 they'll go into a gti6 :)

good luck finding some though

easier to find some 8vT pistons and add some cutouts if required.

Ed you are right mate I know this, I'm just hoping I can get one made up somewhere but now you've said you struggled with heat problems I might just go for the dp one. I know its not going to be cheap, the turbo, manifold, the rubuild and after market managment but I ll risk standard internals for fun, just to experiment :)

Stebbs that's something for me to think about, what internals are you running if you don't mind me asking ?? :)

Im not sure you'd have that much heat issues, but at 10.5k rpm we were seeing peak temperatures of 1300 on the hot side of the turbo which is why we had issues with stainless.

Hey mate alloy block on steel liners, wossner pistons at a cr of 8.5:1 on 1 bar of boost. I've done over 10k now been round the ring and French car show track time.

RFS has different block height and conrod length compared with the S16, so might not be a PnP... (donno the compression height of a RFS piston)

@stebbs: did you do extra mods on you block, like extra liner protrusion or ARP headbolts? Most wet liner blocks seem to pop the head on serious pressure...

I just asked spoox to order some for the job so couldn't tell you the exact details other than they're 83.5mm bores, and no standard headbolts Peugeots very finest. I was told any more than 1.3bar I would run into trouble so aimed for a 1 bar reliability.

Cheers

RFS has different block height

nope, same block.

and conrod length compared with the S16

yeah that is true, 152/158.

I agree with welshpug about RFS and S16 blocks being the same

RFS comp height is 33.8mm with 22mm pressed pins...

You're right about the block height...

Do S16 conrods fit RFS crank?

same crank.

OK, that means it's possible to turn an RFS into a T16 - more or less :).

S16 rods are 6mm shorter... You wont have compression anymore...

but the pistons are 5mm+ taller, and flat top with valve cutouts.

RFS are dished.

But I think cybernck intended to use S16 rods with RFS pistons.

If you use S16 rods and S16 pistons, in the same block and with same crank, you end up with S16 like compression.

Only diff then is the head volume, which is less for RFS...

No, I meant S16 rods with T16 pistons in RFS block and head :).

What's the exact difference in chamber volume between S16 and GTI-6?

40 and 37.2cc IIRC.
