Thats not the point! Every one knows its a GR with stickers, but there is less than 70 left on the road and thats what people love. A 306 Rallye is just GTI6 with stickers but people still love them.

Thats not the point! Every one knows its a GR with stickers, but there is less than 70 left on the road and thats what people love. A 306 Rallye is just GTI6 with stickers but people still love them.

No it's not. It's a top hot hatch with reduced weight meaning faster steering, better handling et al. The 205 is JUST stickers

My 2 cents worth......you'd be as mental to pay £10k for that as you would for a 5 door 1.1 in the same condition.

 

Why? Well, because in standard form they are fugly to the extreme, and nothing special performance wise. But modified (15" white steelies and slightly lowered for an absolute starter) they look a 100x better. But you wouldn't buy that at that price and modify it, you'd be insane. So it's a total white elephant, in my eyes.

Can't see how a compressor, radiator, a few pipes, wires and some gas can weigh ~100kg though!

 

Back OT though, nice car but I wouldn't pay that much for it. I know Rallyes are nice but to me a GTI will always be nicer and better in pretty much every respect, so to me at least that makes a GTI worth more.

It makes me laugh how people jump on the "hate wagon" for uk rallyes, putting them down saying they're crap vs gti's..

 

I don't think anyone is saying it's better than a gti, the rallye was made as a cheaper alternative to the gti let's not forget. Smiles per miles I don't think you can get much better, I'm happy with mine and would buy another.

Remember that yours isn't standard though - it's the standard engine and gearbox combination that is the biggest issue on a UK Rallye IMO.

 

The engine in yours is (very) loosely an injected decendant of the Euro Rallye engine and assuming that it's also got the short-ratio 106 Rallye gearbox, I'm sure it is a hoot to drive. It's the engine and gearbox combination that I'd ideally put in a Rallye as it's far more in keeping with the Rallye ethos and - in the 106 atleast - great fun, spinning up easily and rewarding to drive.

 

The UK Rallye engine and gearbox combo is none of those things - in 106 terms, it would be like comparing a S1 Rallye with a Quiksilver.

 

I have no problem with people liking UK Rallye's, I really don't - I'm just utterly perplexed why people are so attracted to them and the (far superior and much more fun IMO) 205 XS is completely ignored. That's what I don't understand. Drive a standard example of both and you'll see what I mean....

About you trying to imply it's special? Yes I did and it's not. As said by me and Anthony earlier an XS is a far superior car. The rallye was show n no go.

Would love a lowered, 1.6 16v, bucket seated one though

The UK 205 Rallye, is frankly a showroom special for sure and lame in standard trim, but still the 205 model I most want to own, purely an issue of personal desirability. It's probably fair to say we like 205s for a range of reasons and I like the GTIs, but the XS and TU 1.1 are the purest and most enjoyable 205s to me. Fell free to quote that back to me when I get an XU or EW in mine!

Wrong.

 

It's a lower spec GTi6 which took Peugeot an age to sell even at a lower price

 

Weight saving is due to poverty spec swaps. At least with things like the 172 cup over the 172 they lost the ABS, reduced sound deadening, slightly wider track due to offset etc to offset the weight and imprive the feel slightly while retaining electrics.

 

I'd bloody love a 306 rallye though

306 is much more than a few bits dropped off, its 60 odd kilos lighter, it all adds up!

 

book 0-60 times were 7.2 for the 6 and 6.9 for the rallye.

 

Cloth seats, windy windows, bench rear seat, no a/c, no sunroof, less sound deadening, manual mirrors, no passenger airbag, no side airbags.

 

The compressor weighs 8 kilos...
