given that a standard roadgoing 1.6 gti IIRC is around the 850 kilos and a basic 1.9 is about 875, I would say it is.

840kg would be a more usual figure, what have you done to it to remove weight.

dont help when i i'm using gti6 engine and brakes, and kept the heaters

640 is VERY light, if you ask me

The rallye started off at 800kgs ish. To remove 160kgs while fitting a heavier engine is VERY impressive. I think we need to see a proper spec list on that one!

Yours appears to be the same spec as mine but running a significantly heavier engine.... I'd quite like to know where you've lost the extra 110kgs (once the extra engine weight is included)!

Well I got a rallye down to 670-680kg estimated (was 750kg with driver when weighed at Leda) with no rear torsion bars, stripped of everything including heater matrix, had bucket seats, polycarbonate windows, fibreglass bonnet skin, standard engine, 106 rallye wheels, standard brakes, OMP exhaust. Maybe the 6 was an 8 <_<

Ok there are no heatears, minimal dash, battery was moved so no battery tray. I don't know if the fact it's a non sunroof one helps. But seriously car the polly windows, I haven't done much else to it! 160kg + the engine weight does sound one hell of alot to loose. It's also had a gti rear beam, again not sure if that adds more weight again! I'll do a re weigh an this time take a picture for you all to see

Do they buy scrap metal, by any chance? If so, I would say it's in their interest to have the scale under-reading by about 20%.

This is what I mean, staring to question the credibility of the scales now, but no I don't think they do. An have no idea, might try another bridge if I can find one.

see I have neither a fiberglass bonnet or boot! Bonnets on it's way and in all fairness don't even have a lock on the boot an I think with the window wouldnt weigh much more than a fg one to be honest. Is your shell a gti with a sunroof?

Poly windows weigh alot less than glass.

That must be with everything attached, glass, wiper, lock etc. I have a bare metal boot here and its very light, I can lift it with one finger.

I doubt very much that 640 is accurate its a massive job to get one under 700kg's let alone 60kg's under!

Phone the local council. They should have one somewhere.

Better still, if you have a VOSA test centre near you they will have one.

Mine comes in at 675kg now, with iron block 16v, 2 buckets, cds cage and no fuel. Calibrated weighbridge!

My car is missing lots of things like heaters the dash weights 1.2kg so i very much doubt yours is 640 unless you've gone mad with the whole saw :)

Atari Boy

2.0 8v XU10J2 lump, 1.6 be1 box

SD six point cage, Cobra Monaco buckets and Sabelt harnesses

Sort of stripped, well I have removed the stereo and rear seats but kept the centre console and lower dash.

Koni dampers all round and 1.9 beam and brakes.

No soundproofing underlay but carpet still in place and extra carpet in rear.

Otherwise standard including glass etc.

940kg including full tank of fuel and tool bag, bag weights 8 kg, fuel by my maths 37kg so 895 kg.

agree with baz, i find it hard that people have low 700's, like DJ mini, let alone 600's, when i have pretty much stripped mine,

and i've save 20kgs on wheels over most of the cars above, as i have the C5 wheels weighing 4.7kgs

i cant believe my std gti6 brakes and heaters will save me that much.

if someone can point out on my car where i can save more weight, please let me know..lol

i will change the metal sheel to alloy sheet too, but that wont save me much
