Your 205 Weight

Recommended Posts

jase 31t

Hey guys, im now building myself a 205 rally car and was wondering what

weight other people have got there car down to.

I'm hoping to get mine down to 820kg or below in full race trim.

Do you think this is achiveable? i will be using poly carb windows no interior apart from

the basic's.

Cheers Jason

as a sprint or hill climb car I think that's possible, but not as a rally car without having something quite fragile and very expensive.

Corrected, 735kg.

That's with a full weld-in CC cage, an 8v on bodies, Poly windows, Carbon bonnet, FG tailgate and lightened elsewhere where possible!

if you want it to be msa log booked and it is up to 2 litre rally car it will have to weigh a minimun of 1000kg. i took the seats out of my 1.6 with a 1.9 engine, fitted a bolt in cage, seats etc. left the glass and heater in and it came to 960kg so i had to add weight.

Mine was 940kg with a decent sized bloke sat in it so I am guessing the car would have been approx 850kg.

Its stripped with full roll cage and perspex windows. Thats without any real lightening of the inner skins etc.

I was going to say the same, then I noticed the OP is from down under. So the msa can kiss his balls.

I should add my road rally car with a full tank, 2 spare wheels, tool box and me came in at 1000Kg

both ridiculously light in my opinion :) This is where the 205 can have an advantage in competition...

yeah i dont have to worry about MSA lo book as im in australia, some things ive got planed are poly carb windows, carbon fibre trim no interior only seats half dash, its getting a massive cage tig welded cage, custom rear end (getting rid of beam and putting mcpherson struts with turrets in there so i can have a decient coil over rear.

I will be making a build up thread soon when i figure out how to post pics.

I need to weigh my track 205 again as last time it went on the scales was before a re-shell!

However I can talk about lightweight cars, the green Mini is 440kg, I'm sure some will have seen the pictures with the back lifted into the air by hand!

720kgs. Ali block TU engine, 13" ACB10s, one seat, OMP cage, polycarb windows, quarter tank of fuel. Its amazing how much you feel extra weight when you only have 80bhp, it feels pretty quick when set up for the hills, but when set up for 12-cars with extra seat, passenger, full tank, 5 pepperpots with yokos etc it becomes pretty sluggish. It gains 5kgs per corner just with the wheels!

Locost weighs in at 450kgs with a full cage...

Phone the local council. They should have one somewhere.

Better still, if you have a VOSA test centre near you they will have one.
