I am a newbie on here and looking to buy my first 205 in a couple of weeks time. I was thinking about this the other day so would really be interested if someone could highlight the advantages and disadvantages of both engines in a 205

think this has been covered about 1,000,000 times now..

best idea would be to try and get a drive in a 205 with each engine and make your own mind up.. both are a great addition to the wee 205

It's the new 8V vs 16V.. :)

Depends what you mean by "best" really, do you mean more power, which will make you go faster, which is more tunable, or which will last longer?

GTi6 comes with more power and a more reliable management system, but the Mi16 is lighter! Both seem to respond well to the same mods, and Mi16's will pretty much all need a rebuild of some sort.

In my opinion the Mi16 is better, because it makes almost as much power for less weight, and it's a right laugh to rev the tits off it.

I have, with my arms accurate to 0.001 tonnes. I found that the Mi16 block weighed 0.notmuch whereas the GTi6 block weighed exactly 1 s*itload. That's a difference of 0.waytoomuch.

hmm, well the head weighs about 26 kilos on the later engines, how much does an MI16 head weigh?

I've got an iron block I can weigh sat outside, as well as a bare alloy block and a set of liners, no 1.9 rods or pistons or crank though

Sounds good Mei, don't think pistons and conrods would make much difference between the two?

Would the main difference be between the blocks(/liners)?

Heads I can't imagine being that different?

Vac pump and coilpacks on the 6 head won't weigh much against dizzy, rotor ht leads etc on MI?

Is the 2.0 HDI block pretty much the same block as an XU10?
