205 1.9 Top Speed - What Should I Be Getting ?

I know I've mentioned this before, but using the 20.9mph per 1000rpm... a 1.9 should be doing 62.7mph @ 3000rpm.. right?

 

How in Gods name do I get 80mph then? Can someone do some clever calculations and figure out what 5th gear I'm running?!

 

car: 1.9, air filter, all else std. wheel, tyres etc... :(

205 1.8 GRD (76.7mph @ 3k) or 405 1.9 GR (77.83mph @ 3k) perhaps?

 

ratios are listed at http://www.205gti.com/techgearboxUK.htm

 

take the speed in kmh @ 6500rpm and multiply by 0.62 to get mph then divide by 6.5 to get mph/1000rpm (then multiply by 3 to get mph at 3000 rpm).
