Bilstein Coilover Inserts- New Or Rebuild.

Recommended Posts

I think that the Escort gravel inserts are rated at 260/60 and the tarmac at 300/70, but by using the 2.25 springs, you have a huge choice of springs, from 90 lbs to 1400 lbs and from 4" to 14" in length, and they're only about £20 each.

I would be very interested to know how the escort damper rating compares to the Peugeot gravel ones if anyone could oblige.

According to the Peugeot Group A / Group N build manual, the tarmac inserts are 300-200 and the gravel inserts 250-120.

Thanks for that.

If that info is correct it would mean that the escort gravel ratings have approx 4:1 ratio of rebound to bump, compared to the peugeots 2:1 - which would mean the escort inserts would be way off the optimum that Bilstein have developed fofr the Pug. Not trying to upset the applecart - but just something to be aware of.

the difference in the damping would be for the different drive wheels, i.e a RWD Escort are setup significantly different to a 205.

Not being a spoilsport or anything but IMHO why go through all the hassle of machining parts or settling for dampers with the wrong settings to save £100? Probably better off leaving the knackered 300/200 inserts in than swapping for incorrectly rated Ford ones.

I'm inclined to agree, not worth the effort, especially to find out after all the work they don't work quite so well as the ones that are right for the application
