[misc_work] Another 205 Saved From The Crusher

Recommended Posts

steve@cornwall

Had to post as my little "look" 1.1 went through it's MOT today ^_^ Bought CHEAP from ebay locally it's seen my first attempts at making brake pipes - all the buggers from underneath! - and a new front numberplate. Managed to come in under 200 quid with road tax and test costs , so quite happy! Improvements to make it more useable will start at the weekend

Goes down to Hi-Q on the roundabout up the road (I get trade rate  ) Also spent ages adjusting the lamp aim (I forgot) and trying to get the CO levels acceptable, Petrol's AT LEAST 3 years old and It dropped 2%+ with the air filter off so a service may just be in order ^_^ -- always tip a good tester---

Certainly can - Says he looks forward to my 205s

As picked up, complete with such luxuries as wind up windows, individual locking, 4 spd 'box - doesn't even have a temperature guage!!!scruffy seats with bench (not split) rear and mirrors you can adjust from outside! front wheels were different offset so it's a bit "off" with the right ones fitted! Will get tracked when I replace the fubared O/s driveshaft. But it starts on the button and stops an a dime just needs a bit of attention to the bit in between

do I spy a nearside numberplate lamp out?

Nope, just not as clean as the o/s one :)

BTW- the 4 speed 'box sucks big-time - such a tall gap between 2nd and 3rd that it kills it dead changing up hill. Is the 5 speed any better?

Cornish plates! still has the dealer's plates, rear screen sticker and even tax disc holder! Dealership is long gone, but I can still see the building from upstairs window. (I even worked there for a while in the Talbot Alpine days :) )

Putting a 1.4 in it would kind of defeat the object......although I did think to myself today that I'm actually building a 1.1 XS, which all seems a bit silly

Cheers, all! Transformation is nothing short of phenomenal on the road - all the body roll is gone, and with the roundabouts every couple hundred yards here that is a REAL bonus. Problem now is something is fouling on full lock (both sides), Looks like I'll need 1.6 GTi hubs, too, (may as well have the vented discs, too) I just hope this won't protrude past the wings!!!

Ass end will stay up until I source a GTi beam "at the right price"
