  1. Hello All, Hopefully a very simple question about my 1992 1.9 GTI standard engine. My oil pressure gauge is dead as a dodo but the warning light is fine. Can someone tell me where it lives? Somewhere under the inlet manifold I think? I suspect dodgy wiring as almost every other connection has been chopped and hacked together. Seems a prior owner found ripping the engine without disconnecting anything is possible. Kind regards, Rob
  2. My Mi16 is worrying me slightly, the stop light and the oil pressure light is coming on. When I last drove the car from my old house to the new house, there were no problems, no warning lights, even through the oil got up to temperature. Now the car is sorn and parked in the garage, and when I started it last the warning lights came on at low RPM (the gauge is still showing good pressure, but the stop light is flicking on. Should the stop light be either fully on / off, as this is a gradual on / off?). The engine hasn't really done much mileage since it was rebuilt 5 years ago, but want to check the oil pressure properly just so I know if I'm dealing with a mechanical problem, or an electrical fault. Anyway, I've seen this kit for testing the pressure. I'm not really interested in fitting a permanent kit in the car, so this looks ideal. The only thing is what adaptor would I need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MECHANICS-MECHANICAL-REMOTE-MASTER-ENGINE-OIL-PRESSURE-GAUGE-TESTING-KIT-WR-/121108782405?pt=UK_Measuring_Tools_Levels&hash=item1c32a55d45 Cheers, Dean
  3. To set the scene. I couldn't take my filler cap off....then i eventually did by snapping the perrished oil filler hose. I then proceded to buy a complete silicon oil breather hose set. After replacing the hoses and the oil filler plastic tunnel i seem to have a problem with my oil pressure dropping under acceleration. The pressure is at 3/4 on tickover and drops to the first bar at about 4500rpm but never low enough for the warning light to come on. The hose that goes onto the top of the oil filler (the larger one) needed to be forced on and bored out a little to fit properly. The fit is still dead tight though. All of the hoses are on solid and have not moved. I did also remove the mesh that is in the top of the filter cap too. The car has always smoked a bit and rattled a bit on start up. I believe that there may be a slight oil leak around by the filter or it is running down by the filter somewhere but i cannot be sure that it wasn't there before. My questions are.... 1) Have i knocked something (wiring wise) that could cause the gauge to go down under acceleration ? 2) Has taking the mesh out made the pressure drop? 3) Now that i have replaced all the hoses and the car can now breathe, has something else (a gasket maybe) blown? 4) Could i have put the wrong hose in the wrong place? 5) Is it the beggining of the end ? I should also add that the car acts the same. Just the gauge is telling me something is not right.
  4. Before we took the engine out everything had worked, after rebuilding the engine and painting the car I have some electrical issues (although the loom stayed in and also nobody was messing arround it. Also all the connectors are clean and checked: - (bottom) driving lights don't work - there's no power comming through - question: from the main loom, where do the cables go (1987 Ph1) - I can't find a relay nor the fuse for it. All I know is that it's the brown wire comming to driving lights connectors but on the other side I don't have a clue where it goes (definitely it goes to a wiring loom but from there it's all insulated). If I only knew that, I could examine why it doesn't get the power to the lights... Also, is there a relay for Ph 1 or at least a fuse? I know a work arround, which is pretty obvious (new wiring and new relay switch) but it just pisses me off since it worked just fine before. - oil pressure gauge - when I turn the key to ignition position (so just before turning the engine) the needle jumps to max but when the engine runs it doesn't show anything. I checked the connector, the sender is supposed to work, so I don't have a clue what else can I check. Read quite some, but nowhere found an answer about relay and fuse for the driving lights in Ph1 cars and about oil pressure - no idea left whatsoever...
  5. Hi all Just got a nice 205 GTI 1,9 '89 the other day. All is well with the bodywork and swapped in a full leather cabin from a wrecked gti, so the interior is also getting there. BUT.... The oil temp is running hot after aprox 15 min of motorway driving. If I stick to 70 mph, it looks to level out at 120c but if I go to 85mph it climbs towards top of the stock oil temp gauge. To verify, I used a (admitted rather cheap) IR thermometer. When the cars temp gauge was at the 2nd last point the IR temp said 120c at the oil filter. The sump itself was 100c (guessing the oil will be warmer still). These temps are ok, but as mentioned, they rise steadily if I push beyond 70 mph. Now, that cannot be right. I just changed filter and oil, but what can I look for next to find the cause? I read that the sensor is at the sump, but I didn't see it while changeing oil? My oil pressure is all over the place. Sometimes if flickers all over the gauge and sometimes it reads zero. Once in a while it looks right and steady, but only at a cruise as soon as it move the throttle, it flickers again.. I have replaced the sensor (the one to the left when you look at the block) but not the one just next to. (see pic) If I am to replace the one on the right, how is that done? I've just replaced plugs and rotor, which helped on some stutter between 2-3000 rpm. However, the engine seems to not give any point to pull beyond 5000 rpm. Seems to flatten out there. Is that correct for the 1.9 '89 engine? More lives on torque from 3-5000 that spikey hp's? Not what I expected from having driven a 1.3 106 rallye before. Now, for something completly different Where do I find permanent 12V for the radio? Should I take it from the cigarette lighter or is there anything in there? Only thing I can see is a white 2 leaded cable, which has a strange connector at the end. Mats.. Any idea where to get the most OEM (but still with GTI logos) looking LHD mats? I found links to RHD... I can find some on ebay, but they do not look all that spiffy... or maybe a bit too spiffy
  6. Hi Does anyone have toe part no for the Oil Temperature sender in the 1.9? Also the Oil Pressure Sender would be good. Actually I have a XU9J2 engine from either a 405 or Citroen BX GTI, but I'm thinking they are the same? My local Peugeot dealer can't find the part no. Does any online part catalogue exist? Thanks!
