Nice Quick Exhaust Question

Recommended Posts

shalmaneser

As described, just a quicky.

Got some new downpipe/manifold bolts and flexi joint from the bay of dreams.

just wanted to confirm where the fibre/asbestos looking washer goes, it's one of the two options below. So can i get an answer - top or bottom.

Cheers!

i reserve the right to be wrong but it looks as though the washer fits inside the little top hat washer.

so in answer to you rquestion the top one

it should go in the cup, or at least that's how every one I've removed and fitted has been!

yey, thought it would be the top pic - with the washer in the cup. That's what it looked like under the bonnet but the washer has crumbled away so i thought it best to check!

Thanks everyone!

no bottom pic between spring and downpipe flange NOT IN CUP , its to stop the spring squeaking on the exhaust

The kit i last bought didnt even have that washer in there, i also lost the little cup thing on one side, which was replaced with a big washer i think. getting a new exhaust when ready so not really bothered!

Particularly when the engine mounts are worn it allows the exhaust to move, has to hinge/flex somewhere and that is where, hence the ring mesh/fibre gasket thingy is supposed to allow a bit of movement, but they squeak a bit if the washer isn't on the springs as above... :)
