8v 1.6 And 1.9 Flywheel

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am wanting to know te above information and also is there an easy way to identify the flywheels from eachother. Is fitting a 1.6 flywheel a good improvement to a 1.9 engine?

Thanks

A search would uncover that the 1.6 flywheel is a fair bit lighter, and appears different due to having the outer circumference milled out in three places around it iirc.

Thanks Baz, so is a 1.9 solid and the 1.6 milled out? Any pictures of this?

Did this swap last night and the engine does seem to rev a lot easier. Haven't had a scale to weigh them though. The 1.6 flywheel is milled twoards the outside but is a bit thicker. Anyone know the weight difference?

There is approximately 1kg difference in weight between the two from weighing them personally.

I've got an XU7J4 flywheel to weigh shortly :D

It was & now it is.

XU7J4 flywheels weighs in at approx 6.5kg iirc.

I've got one downstairs I weighed a while ago.

You can get them pretty light. I've got an Mi item which has been lightened down to 4.1kgs and that still has the timing teeth on it.

KAM do an alloy item for 3.8kgs :|

The 1.6 (and 1.9) flywheels don't have the timing teeth on them that the Mi16 ECU needs to run. So it won't work with the original injection system.

Yes you'd notice a good improvement in 1-3rd gear acceleration no doubt.
