dcc 855 Posted October 5, 2023 Love it Phil! I think you may want to consider a day box swap rather than a dog box, it's very much an option as it's been done a few times now! (Effectively a cheap sequentially box in my eyes!)

(Effectively a cheap sequentially box in my eyes!) Hey buddy. Great to hear from you. I take it you wrote Dsg but auto correct changed it. I absolutely agree with what you are saying and watch this space to where the rattler goes after I reach my 10. 99. The trouble is I have a goal with this car and I can’t change it until I get there. The goal was set along time ago when my ego was trying to prove its own worth. The goal was a 10 second naturally aspirated street car using a Peugeot engine and gearbox. ( I’ve dropped the street car bit now as that means street tyres and very unrealistic with my budget. However I’m close and I m loving the journey for what it is and not so much the goal if that makes any sense. I can’t wait to see how fast I can get this pug when I remove all the restrictions and don’t make it difficult for myself. Behind the scenes I’ve been doing a lot of self work and i really feel like I don’t need to prove my worth through the things I do or achieve anymore. Thanks for your comment and support Dan
dcc 855 Posted October 5, 2023 I remember you saying about that goal many years ago! You're certainly close now! Good to hear you're keeping well, but surely it's time to update the 11.40 in your signature Catch up with you soon mate
pip470 63 Posted July 19, 2025 Just a brief update, i decided to ditch the gearbox ideas for now. The current plan in true Jeremy clarkson fashion “ more powwwwwer” im going to be running new fuel in the form of nitro rc car fuel. 25% nitro. I’ve upgraded all my fuel system so it can run alcohol based fuels, fitted a large fuel pump ( Weldon). 900 cc injectors and bought some ngk 7 and 8 spark plugs to see which ones it likes. Dyno day will be booked soon to see what it makes. Any guesses to what power it might produce?? I’m hoping it’s in the 340 to 350 range which should( if the transmission holds it) see me into the 10’s. I’ve had a new logo made too which I think is pretty cool. I’ll post that below. I will update after the dyno day.
Tom Fenton 1,626 Posted July 19, 2025 Just thought, what gearbox ratios etc are you using, what gear do you go over the 1/4 in? We deliberately geared the mini so it was just about flat out in 4th (out of 4) over the line, obviously shorter gears is better acceleration. A shorter final drive maybe, from rally experience there are quite a range out there for BE boxes if that’s what you are still using? Up to 5.0something :1 out of an Expert van is the shortest. The other thing we had was a really long 1st, otherwise the short final drive makes 1st useless, it will only do say 20mph. However in your case maybe you could then launch in 2nd and use 2-3-4-5 instead.
welshpug 1,715 Posted July 19, 2025 i believe colin satchell went the other way, to keep the simple 1-2 3-4 gates, longest BE final drive possible, i think a 3.6 or thereabouts, even had a 5th gear lockout.
Tom Fenton 1,626 Posted July 20, 2025 I can absolutely agree with that from my drag racing days, if you were ever going to miss a cog, then across the gate from 2nd to 3rd would be the one.
pip470 63 Posted July 20, 2025 Hey Tom, I have a be3 with a mi16 final drive 4.1. I cross the line at top of 4th around 8000 @ around 119mph so still have another 1000 rpm to get me between 125-130. I think being na the ratios need to be really short. If I was boosted I would definitely use a lower final drive as the terminal speeds would be so much higher. im really trying to take what I’ve got and make it work. I looked into dog boxes with great gear selections and final drives and the cost soon added up. Dsg I think is in the future for sure after I hit the 10. This fuel swap is costing around £1500 by the time I’ve had it dynoed and bought the fuel. fuel pump was £150 second hand fittings, lines, filter and regulator £300 injectors are £330 with the spacers. dyno between 400 and 600. fuel was £150 for 38 ltrs of m1 and £300 for 40 ltrs of nitro. I have a 10 ltr tank and could get 3 runs previously before I started getting fuel starvation on the launch. So will be interesting with the quantity of fuel it will use on the nitro having an air fuel ratio of around 4/1. Thanks for the comments guys. Can totally relate to going from 2nd to 5th. Done that a fair few times. I think having the thought of the money shift in your mind, I sometimes overcompensate and reach for the 5th.
pip470 63 Posted January 31 (edited) Update. had the car on the dyno again with the 3 goals. Run the car on pump fuel with the new injectors so just abit of a recalibration run. Then switch to the alcohol and then run the 25% nitro remote control car fuel. We carried out the runs on pump fuel with no problems. 285 hp. switched to alcohol which was the m1 vp racing. The result apart from some sore eyes was 290hp. We then switched to the nitro. Changed the plugs and it wasn’t plain sailing. The first notable thing was the oil content in this fuel due to it being used for two stroke engines caused a lot of smoke. Secondly we ran into the fuel system not being up to the demand. So we tried diluting our 25% mix with the m1. Not the most accurate way but we ended up with around 5% nitro and saw a peak power of 295hp. Not quite what I was looking for or enough I think to achieve a 10. I have a plan that I think would work which includes a bigger fuel rail, fuel lines -8 and bigger injectors again. I’d also like to use a distillation process to separate the nitro from the oil. I can not get hold of pure nitro as it’s a very dangerous chemical that’s on a top of a terrorist wish list. This all being said, I might of reached the end of the road. I’m not finding the joy in this anymore. The financial investment needed is just ridiculous and is a real struggle for me. So I’m contemplating either selling the car as it stands or completely breaking it all down. I feel sad but I’m of the belief that my hobby should be fun and honestly it’s not been fun for a while. Even the race weekend which is like once every two years is a huge stress. Which as I get older, stress is not good for me. here is the dyno graph of the 3 fuels. I’ll post a link to a YouTube vid of one of the runs. Thanks for reading. Edited January 31 by pip470

Tom Fenton 1,626 Posted January 31 Sorry to hear you are thinking of packing in. I do get what you are saying though. As you get more competitive, it becomes more serious and less fun for definite. Not tempted to turbocharge it?
pip470 63 Posted February 3 Hey Tom. I would spend just as much turbo charging now. https://ebay.us/m/AvtCkP it’s a sad day for me.
