Wet Stereo!

Recommended Posts

Hardgraf

Hello again

So my crappy Sony headunit gave up. Then It started smoking so I removed it.

On inspection it appears to have been leaked on and consequently has burnt out. Anyboy else experienced this?

Want to make sure I cure the leak before installing a new head unit.

Thanks

Tom

Leaky heater matrix will be the cause - it sits pretty much above the stereo

I just had the same problem, it is indeed the matrix. £35 from GSF :)

at least they didn't do what fiat did and place some vital electronics under there, common Airbag ecu failure if a heater matrix goes on the Brava/Bravo/marea. :)

Great cheers guys. I'll find some time to sort it this weekend.

Still going strong Mei at 1500 miles now. Found some Gates Vulcoflex hose which has cured the radiator top hose issue.

excellent news tom :D sorry I couldn't solve it before you got the car back.

heater matrix replacement its too difficult in 205 thankfully, just be careful not to drain the contents of the cooling system into the footwell

I had this on my 1st GTI, swapped the heater matrix and it was still doing it!! Turned out to be water coming down the windscreen scuttle panel and through the fan hole. I unblocked the water outlet holes and it was fine after that.

Glad you've mentioned that, my glovebox fills up with water and as I've tried everything to find the leak that was my last thought but wasn't sure if it was possible. Looks like scuttle off time then.

Looks like it is the heater matrix as there's now a puddle of coolant in the passenger footwell!
