Behold, My Beam Is Rebuilt.

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

After nearly a year of owning a replacement beam it has finally been rebuilt and reassembled!

Thank you to everyone that have answered my daft and stupid questions politely.

Don’t worry, I did not do it on my own, I owe Nat a beer or three.

We used his new torsion bar puller and dummy shocks off the forum and they worked a treat, I may have to purchase some.

I am so pleased, all I need to do now is finish it off and get it on the car...

Nice work.

It looks similar to mine beofre it went back on. I'm sure painting them up nice makes them work better ;)

make sure those mounts are on the right way, from memory they are incorrect as pictured, 1.9 front mounts are marked "D" and "G"

funny you said that as the front mounts, i cant see anywhere where they are marked D and G, where abouts are the stamped?

Also mate, what did you use to knock the front bearing in to recess it 5mm? my new outer bearings go in my tube a about 5mm or so with any persuasion. good really as then it should be easier to locate them square.

Okay this is good timing, my mounts have a 'D' and a 'G' on them.

So should the letters face towards the car looking at the car from the rear (so they are readable not upside down) or from the front looking at the rear?

That is some quality porn BTW, great work.

Thanks

Jonny

d is the right hand mount and g is the left hand and iirc they should be right way up from the back of the car.

Okay, sorry to be slow. D = right and G = left.

Is this looking at the front or rear of the car?

as if you were sat driving it, ie the right or left of the car, so yes Droite is french for Right, Gauche is Left.

Have I put my torsion bars in the wrong way then? The yellow markings are where the bars are now, one stripe for right, two for left.

Before painting the bars I noted where the original markings were and repainted them in the same place..

Should they be where the red markings are instead as show in V8Pete’s beam?

Help!

ALEX

Everyone (including me) makes the mistake of fitting the zinc coated seal collars flush with the beam! LOL
