Shift Light Wiring

Recommended Posts

vickiw106

I have recently brought a shift light for my rally car

I am struggling to work out which wire to use on the coil pack side

Please find the wiring diagram below

The suspect wiring is circled with arrow

Thanks

Which engine/car is it?

If its a 205 GTI with the original coil the bit you circled doesn't apply, just connect it to the coil. If its a newer setup with coilpacks it needs to be connected to the tachometer output from the ECU.

Just connect the shift light to the negative (-) pin on your coil, ignore the dashed line on that diagram, that is for much newer cars with coilpacks not coils, it means they have more than one coil basically.

If your 205 is post 1990 or thereabouts it might not have a cylindrical coil like the one in the diagram, it might be a squarer unit that would have been mounted on the inlet manifold if you didn't have carbs, if so its still wired the same, you will see a - by the correct pin.
