Getting My 205 Loom Rewired For Gti-6 Engine

Recommended Posts

springs

i'm venturing out to convert my 1.6 gti into a 2.0 gti-6.. I've been reading all the threads etc. but i need help with the loom..

i'm not really up to re wiring it myself as i will no doubt screw it up and destroy something.. what i'm wondering is if there is anyone around that will take both looms and wire it up to work with the new engine

throw the 1.6 gti loom in its entirety into the bin, grab the 2 brown multiplugs under dash by steering column and pull them through to fuse box. Go through the bulkhead behind fuse box with required wires and mate to gti6 loom. remember you will need to sort a diode loom to make rev counter work and bridge the fuel cut off valve

how easy is it to wire in the new loom.

is this the same for the 1.9 as well. where the 2 multiplugs come out originaly from the bulk head could i cut them down there and wire up to the new ecu

I think this thread would be a good place to start a decent guide. I really would like to do this engine conversion, but the loom buisness scares me

a guide is no good as there are too many ways of doing it. I have my way which i think works the best but others have ways that they like to use.

but maybe if there was at least one guide to follow, its would save the confusion between all the different method.

there's plenty of threads that'll give you an idea where to start but as mentioned theres many ways to do it, as well as many differences in the wiring looms both on the 205 and 306 looms.

just a few to get you started :)

basics is straightforward, permanent live, ignition switched live, fuel pump feed and earth will get it started.

just don't go chopping stuff till you know 100% what it does  thats one thing that caused me a lot of grief with a 2.0 Mi16 conversion, some bugger had cut half a dozen wires :glare:

Or you could just not be lazy and figure it out.

All you really need is a list of pin-outs for the 6 and 205 plugs and you can basically work everything else out from there. If you need somebody to tell you what wire to cut, how long to cut it and what to join it to etc etc then you may as well just have somebody else do it for you.

I think I have my list of the entire 205 loom pin-outs somewhere so if you get stuck I'll post them up.
